This should tell you all you need to know link. The K5 knocks the 5D out in the first round. Now the 5DII is a very different proposition

So what we are saying is that a Pentax camera of Sept. 2010 beats a Canon camera from Aug. 2005. Five years difference and hundreds of thousands of FF high quality images later, the K5 moves in front.

I can't argue with that.

The OP was specifically interested in whether the K5 would equal the IQ he gets from his Canon 5D, so....

It's a relevant comparison!

As I have written on probably hundreds of essays: answer the question!

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

If IQ is the only comparrison then yes, go for a K5.

Having a Canon user move over to a Pentax is very much like a Windoz user move over the Mac... Only once you start using the Pentax do you think "Why did I take long to make the change?".

Enjoy .......now I'm off to download a few images from my K5 to my iMac..heaven
No it is not ....Canon has some strenghts and issues and so does Pentax. Doesn't matter what kind of 'hardware' you are using. How are you using it is what really counts.

What does this mean, taken from that comparison?

Quote:
Significantly larger viewfinder (Canon 5D) 0.71x vs (Pentax K5) 0.60x Around 40% larger viewfinder.
I thought that the K5 has a 100% viewfinder, or is it comparing it to the frame size? If so, the 5D will be bigger as it's FF.

I think you are confusing the two concepts, the 100% would be referring to the coverage. Coverage is how much of the capture image is visible on the viewfinder.

The numbers quote above are the magnification. ie how much the picture you see through the viewfinder is magnified compared to not seeing it through the viewfinder.

Is this going to be yet another thread where members resort to trading insults?

I really hope not.

Come on guys there is no need to get into arguments here, In my initial post I was asking for information regarding switcging over to the Pentax system from Canon as I have inherited quite a bit of old manual gear.

I know I'm new around here but lets keep this forum what it is, a discussion forum and not let it demise like so many other forums have.

Well said that newbie!

What a terrible impression certain members of this forum are giving to new and potentially new members.

Dave I hope you are able to make an informed decision, and if you do decide to buy a Pentax that you will stick around and enjoy our forum, despite the initial impression , and will enjoy your new camera too.
