I use one of these.
It's a wee bit above your price bracket but is a quality piece of kit. I've used a cheaper one in the past but it doesn't approach the Logan system.

I have and would recommend a Frameco Matmaster, which are available from Lion Picture Framing in Birmingham. It was expensive but is of all metal construction and will not warp. If you have a look at the Lion web site, they have many other options in mount cutters.
A good straight edge and a bevel cutter, is obviously the cheapest solution.
I must admit for most of my print mounts, I stick the photo on the surface of a mounting board using 3Ms Photo Mount adhesive, in the red tin. In my experience, other adhesives do not perform as well as 3Ms Photo Mount in the red tin.

You should practise and take a lot of care. Remember, measure twice cut once!

Another Logan user here. I use a sheet of crushed polystyrene like the stuff used with laminate flooring under the mount, the blade just glides through the cut.RAB wrote:

I think my best option is to stick to standard sizes. Never was much good at DIY.
