More K5 help please

Went out with the K5 for the first time this morning and took some test shots, all fine with the cameras performance especially made up with the fast auto focus.

Anyway to the point, I have uploaded the images to a file on my computer and tried to view them in the Pentax DCU only to find it wont open! the banner flashes up on the screen for a second or two and then goes off, I have reinstalled three times now and its still the same!!. What i cant understand is that when I first installed it two days ago It worked fine.

Having no other way to view the Raw images I opened them in Picasa 3, they looked fine at first but then I noticed a strange pink and white band down the right hand side of all the images, It does not show on the cameras lcd screen.

Any help would be most welcome.

IIRC that's a problem with Picasa Cliff, are you shooting PEF or DNG? Will PSP open DNG's?

Have you installed anything else afterwards?

I would try a system restore and try again.

Try viewing them in Irfanview to see if the stripe is there or if it is a Picassa problem.

What software do you have for developing RAW?

Up to Picasa 3.8, it did this with K-5 DNGs.

If you upgrade to 3.9, they appear to have fixed it.

Hi John, I`m shooting in DNG and the version I have of PSP wont open them!.

Nothing Alan and I`ve just tried a system restore to no avail. Its a real yed scratcher that one

I have been using Samsung's own Raw converter Gwyn which is a version of Silkypix and will only show Samsung files!. I`ll give irfanview a go and see what happens.

Irfanview is good for viewing the photos but I wouldn't convert them in it. Try RAWTherapee for a free converter.

If you are going to be shooting in RAW all the time though I recommend you buy a converter. Have a look at Capture One and Bibble if you don't want to go the Adobe route.

Tbh I`ll probably buy something like Capture one in the end, I have updated Picasa and the images are fine now (thanks ChrisA) for a minuet I thought I had a dodgy sensor with that band on the right edge.
