I really like the different shot, Kris - nice detail on the monument and an excellent sky.

This shows how important it is to "work a subject": try for different angles, view points, lenses.

Super shot. Would obviously make a strong monochrome conversion.

Best wishes,

Andrew

Agreed Andrew - it's a great shot .

But does everything have to be converted to monochrome ?

Not as long as everything doesn't have to be in colour!

I like the new shot, excellent detail in the monoment. The sky looks great at first glance, although looking at it a bit longer the tops of the clouds look a bit blue.

Tim,

Are we seeing thin cloud that is translucent, which is why we can see the sky colour behind?

Kris,

The 3rd shot captures an imposing, solid structure.

Although I am very fond of monochrome, on this occasion I rather like the blue. I stood in freezing weather** with the polariser on my DA* 50-135mm waiting for the one and only break in the cloud to bluster by. I have several shots going from grey cloud to this.

As to straightening it out, I have done so once already. The problem is, which bit to get straight given it is largely curves? I went for getting the columns straight but perhaps I should have gone for something else?

Best wishes, Kris.

Absolutely not. Recently I've taken several shots: some very bright and depending on colour or colour contrast to work, others more suited to subtle colours which I've even toned down a little. Check out my "Left Luggage" set: it would be very dull in mono, I think, yet the Ferguson T20 I posted in the Gallery today was made for mono and conversion meant losing a bright triangular road sign.

Regards,

Andrew
