Is the problem that the screw on the tripod head is too big for the camera?

no, the problem is the piece that fits onto the bottom of the camera that is then attached to the tripod is missing,

If you have a Dixons store near you: they might help you as the Miranda name was there's for years. some stores were taken over by currys.

If anyone at Dixons has any idea of what Miranda cameras were about, then I'll be totally amazed....

Yes I know John, the problem now day's is there young lads and half of them have not a glue. What I was hopeing for Karen was, they might have the camera base plate under a different tripod name.

Miranda tripods seem to sell for very little. I'd imagine that it might be simpler to buy a new one rather than source the part. Sounds daftly extravagant but we are living in a 'throw away' culture

'glue' as in crisp packet with a dollop of evo-stik at the bottom?

Depending on what the tripod's like I'd be inclined to junk it and replace. You can pick up surprisingly good used ones from the likes of Velbon or Slik on ebay for next to nothing.
You could, of course, make a new QR plate by carving one from a wood block (or if you know anyone with access to a milling machine asking them to make a metal one) but I think it'll be a lot less hassle to replace the whole thing.
