Matt it is a bit bright, try stopping down to F22 at various iso's and faster shutter speeds,

Jack.

I tried earlier, but all I got was a white circle on a black background!

Any tips for making the features on the Moon visible to the camera, or is it just too bright?
You have to expose for just the moon - the last one I took on a DA* 300 was ISO 100, f8, 1/90 sec although tonight's moon is quite a bit brighter.

Thanks for that - I'll have another go tomorrow.

I was using my Pentax-F 100-300mm zoom at the smallest aperture and a dubious Jessops "PKA-fit" teleconverter I bought years ago. Might try with just the 300mm and crop it next time as I'm not convinced the teleconverter was helping!

If you want detail use 250-450th of a second 100-400 ISO F4-5.6. play around with those

All mine went straight into the recycle bin

The sky is crystal clear here and the Moon is on overdrive with the light output (OK I know its reflected) so all I get is a burned out moon and a small red speck, If I try and expose for the Moon then Mars just doesnt record.

If it wasn't so damned cold I'd go out and shoot some moonscapes its THAT bright

Same here. Cloud came from nowhere and got comfy!

Clear here but impossible to expose for both at the same time. Moon was at 125th, f/16, 100 ISO, Mars was at 1 sec, f/16 @ iso 200! Using the same settngs for the moon but zoomed into just Mars resukted in pure blackness. Got some potentially nice shots of the moon though!

Yeah I've given up as well, even though the skies have been crystal clear here all evening. The best I can do is a burnt out white circle and a dim pinkish pixel for Mars And it's too bloody cold out there!

So I took some moon shots instead

Hi all (and especially to those returning members). Have been busy doing other things for a while so only managed a couple of posts since November.

Best I managed to get was this. Bit of work in Paint Shop to get the brightness and contrast decent.

If you look very closely you can see Mars in the top left hand corner!

I thought I could see it but turns out to be dust on my screen...

Well amazingly it cleared up here. We took a quick look, and I had a try but failed miserably. It was just too cold to stay out long taking photos.

Woke up this morning to a white world again .

Here is my effort on the moon last night - I did not know about mars!

The original has a brown/red stain on the lower left hand stain on the lower left hand side of the moon which I de saturated!

Not a total washout then, at least a few members got decent moon shots
