Manual Lens HSS

I think that HSS flash may not be possible with a manual aperture lens (M series or older).
To use HSS flash the camera's exposure mode needs to be set to either Tv or M, and in that state, with an M lens attached, the camera has no idea what aperture is set on the lens.
EDIT:
I just put my M 50mm 1:1.7 on my K20D and it confirms what I thought. I also tried my A series 28mm, and that needs to be set to the A setting for HSS to work above 1/180th. When the lens is set to any f stop, the shutter speed can't be raised above 1/180th.
This is all due to Pentax adopting the 'crippled' K mount for all of its DSLR's, and some film cameras too. That is, if the lens is not set to A, the camera can't know what aperture is set.
Hope that helps.

Thank you for the reply,
that is not the answer I hoped for but I have tried all combinations to no avail and hoped there was some way.
I am going to a wedding on the beach in a months time and would liked to have used a m35 f2, as it will be back lit,HSS fill in flash would be ideal, looks like biting the bullet for a 31 LTD.
