Its trying to steer people away from buying into the pentax system. Comparing it to a canon 50d. The media seems canon and nikon mad!

There loss!

Half a step spec wise behind what? A nikon D5000?
I don't think so.

A D5000 is just a D60 with video? No built in AF.

Ignore them. They are goons!

Is it heck as like trying to do that!

It's comparing it to some obvious rivals that people would think about when choosing a camera at this price point.

The 'Media' isn't Canon & Nikon mad, it just so happens (and brace yourself for this if you're of a nervous Pentax fan boy persuasion...) that Canon & Nikon have made some market leading cameras in the past, and they DO have a dominant market share of the DSLR market.

The K-7 looks like a huge step forward for Pentax, but I don't think it's twisting things to say that it is playing catch-up with some of its rivals.

As the article correctly points out, the proof will be in the image quality and handling, the truth of which will be out shortly.

Please don't try and make out that the media is anti Pentax, because 90% of the stuff I've read since the K100d is actually hugely positive.

I think that is a more general comment about the K-7, however good, arriving at the features party a little late.

eg. 3" LCD, 5.2FPS, , HD video, weather sealing, all done before, admittedly the latter by Pentax themselves.

It's unfortunate that some reviewers (I use that term loosely) will all too easily let their bias simmer to the top, just after a few sentences.

Pentax have to contend with this as do Olympus.

They can't or will not be bothered to make an educated comparison between the competing brands. The 'half a step behind' comment illuminates this in all it's glory

Personally, I think the 'half a step behind' comment is a fair one.

It doesn't make the K-7 a bad camera now does it?

I think it's not unfair to say that no other manufacturer has all these features in a camera that is as compact and robust as the K-7.

Certainly many Oly users have registered their interest (dpreview forum) because the K-7 looks to be pretty much all the camera they were hoping the E-30 was going to be. As an ex-Oly user my self I have to agree

Just my humble opinion

Name me a present camera body that has:

5.2fps or more
Inbody SR
full weather sealing of body and lenses
HD Video

Never mind all the other bits and bobs ... is there one?
So exactly half a step behind what?

They headline it as a semi-pro body then compare it against a Nikon D5000.

Take away the video aspect, and there are plenty of similar offerings out there. By the amount of moaning that some DSLR's have video now, that shouldn't be a big problem for some!

Look, the K-7 is a competitive offering, no doubt about it. Most people will await some independent reviews, and then make up their minds as to whether it is something they should consider buying.

Does it make it the best camera on the market? Not for all, no. That's the beauty of having a choice I suppose.

Somebody, somewhere, will always disagree with your choice of camera, and some of them will work as magazine reviewers.

I don't think I've ever seen a brand quite so defended as Pentax!!

Probably because I have never seen a brand knocked as much as Pentax.
