That's fair enough, I've no problem with folk arguing the toss over whether features are worthwhile or not but I have to draw the line at disinformation as that's how rumours get started.

You did ask for camera features, I've got a £4k MAC Pro at home and never got round to make a HDR photo, I've done several now, that's the point, you can try it out in camera with no additional software, time at PC etc. etc.

CA/DC done in camera is a big deal. Again, I've never got round to working out how the hell to do it, and we have CS3 extended suite. One shot gives you the Raw uncorrected, and the JPEG, ready to use out of the camera, corrected.

As for weather sealing, well, Luminous Landscape organised a trip that had 24x 5D mark 2's on it when they got released. One light shower, cameras in plastic bags, 6 died. 4 dried out and eventually worked again, 2 met their maker. We had a very heavy shower on Sunday when out at the zoo, and I went straight out and shot in that weather.




Camera and lens are perfectly fine, strangely enough because they are designed to be weatherproof, are you really saying that I am stupid, or basing that on how good the 'weather sealing' is on other cameras?

On the weather sealing issue - I took the K20D, grip & DA*50-135 on a walkabout. Heavens opened and I got absolutely drenched right to the skin. This wasn't a shower

Camera and lens were both dripping in rain. (The hood kept the rain off the front element.) Took loads of images because the lighting was unusual (hadn't shot in the pouring rain before :roll and both were absolutely 100% fine

Took 'em home, dried with a towel and left out to completely dry.

Yes weather sealing is a big plus for me too, quite often get caught out when walking, especially when weather is not so good anyway.

Not having to worry about your gear in these conditions is great

Now the HDR in camera is one thing that has made me look, and I did at the shots that were taken on the K7, it has made me want to try it for myself, yes I could do it with softwear but in camera makes it even better and quicker, and whats the betting other manufactures will follow.

I of course am not saying your stupid, it's amiss of you to suggest I was.

But I was saying that weather sealed or not (and I owned K10's and K20's as well as weather sealed lenses previous to my current kit remenber) I still protected my kit with additional weather protection when at places like Donna Nook as rain and sand blowing horizontally did get everywhere and even though nothing got in to the camera or lens, arriving home and taking a lens off with a grinding noise followed by sand getting in to the mirror box is not recommended, even after I had cleaned everything.

I was making the point that weather sealing is useful, but again not a unique feature, and in any case not something that will cope with all situations. My D300 is fully weather sealed, and a neoprene cover on my prime zoom takes care of the water and other nasties. I've stood for hours in all weathers up in the mountains photographing fast jets with all types of camera users, and none of us has ever lost a camera or lens with just a little care. In some cases, it's a solution looking for a problem IMO. Whatever did Ansell Adams do without weather sealing?

I used to walk for hours in the rain with my uncovered K20d and 17-70, and guess what, I do the same with my Nikon kit with no ill effect.

Regarding correcting CA/DC, I can't say I've ever needed to do it, and I'd be disappointed with any camera/lens combo that generated it regularly. But, it's not that hard to correct in CS3 Extended, which is what I use too.

But anyway, as some people can't seem to see past anything with a Pentax badge, I'll leave this now and let normal rose tinted service resume...

Actually if I could afford a D700 and suitable lenses I would probably off like a shot. The noise control on that thing is just amazing.
But I can't .. so I won't ....

Well, as I've already confessed I own a Canon Powershot G9 and would not swap it for anything (except a free Leica).

But let's face it, we like Pentax partly because we like Pentax people. We like being a little different from the rest. Being a Pentaxian is about belonging to a small, friendly club. We know we're not elite and we wish we could show others how nice it is to be a part of us, but we wouldn't want to hold anyone here against their will.
