If I'd seen it in my luggage I would have needed

1) Oxygen

2) Rapid Laundry service!

Soldier brings back slightly poisonous spider as trophy from Afghanistan. Family decamps and demands public funds to house them and kill the spider.

Bunch of wimps.

Brings back memories of a time a bunch of mates and myself were staying on a sheep shearing property out west.
Sleeping on the floor of the shed my mate woke saying something had crawled into his ear and was doing backflips in there.
So Dr Clarky with his bush doctoring skills set to work to extract the little beastie.

I couldn't see what it was and i couldn't get hold of it either. I decided we would have to kill it first to enable us to get it out.
The only thing handy was a bottle of scotch which I poured into his ear hoping the alcohol would kill it, well it set the little bugger off doing a gymnastics routine that would put a chinaman to shame and my mate running around like a crazed lunatic.

To cut a long story short, the alcohol didn't kill it, but pi##ed it off and after several hours of trying to fish it out we decided to take the 70km trip into town to see the local doctor.
He put some 100proof alcohol into his ear, which did the trick and then fished out a money spider the size of a 2pound coin.
My mate slept with ear muffs on for the remainder of our trip

Oh great... Jihad Arachnids. A new Frontline....... in the War on Terror.
Now Bush will be dropping cans of Raid on third world countries....
I guess that's cheaper than gps guided missiles!

(just because I'm against Bush, and Harper for that matter, doesn't mean I'm against supporting our troops. If there is one thing you can't overlook it's this: There is apparently no shortage of "Anti-Western" retoric, over there, there is no shortage of weapons/explosives over there, there is an abundant supply of people will to commit suicide missions....... But no big bangs in my back yard. Somebodies doing something right.)
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

good grief Clarky! Money spiders here are perhaps 2mm across!

I'm going to assume different species, same name.

As to the Camel, I've seen house spiders close to that size in abandoned houses, they don't run that fast though.

in a uk house I doubt you're ever more than 5 or 6 feet from a large spider.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help
