Has anyone else noticed that when you Login, maybe only to read a message then logoff all the forum threads change and appear as “read” if you log back in straight away.
Sorry just losing my thread.
Regards, Tom

It's not necessary to log out, why not stay logged in?

I never log out but it happens just the same.

Perhaps we should think of the indicators more as "activity since last visit" rather than "unread" as it seems they reset as soon as we leave the site.

Shame really John as I just might miss something I would be interested in and not have to trawl through everything just in case.

.

Several reasons, one being that I use different PCs at work and at home, second that it has always been good practice to log out when leaving a site.

I have to agree with Tom, it is annoying that the marking disappears when logging out. Items should be kept as not read until you actually click on them.
Best regards
Terry

Most forums seem to have a "go to first unread" link at the top of each thread .. I find that incredibley helpful.

Sorry, nothing to do with logging on ... just sharing my thoughts

I am actually logged in on two computers at once - main PC and laptop - and don't need to put in the login details unless I've left one for a long time.

I wouldn't stay logged in to Internet banking though, nor would it let me!

What du you mean by "a long time", John?

And do you leave the computers on through the night? I always switch off all electronic equipment at bedtime. Any electronic gadget is a potential fire hazard, even when set to standby (e.g the TV set).

This means that any entries I didn't manage to read before going to sleep will appear the next day as already read.
Best regards
Terry

Even if switched off, as the laptop certainly is, I seem to be logged in for weeks at a time. Of course every now and then the server is rebooted and then I need to login again.

As for the main PC, that is in sleep mode when I'm asleep and does its updating then.

The way the site works usually suits me OK, but then as I do a lot of work on the PC I'm usually around and aware of what's going on and I don't have a huge backlog of posts to read.
Best regards, John

I'm also not actually sure it is a login issue.

While I seem to stay logged on for weeks on end I find that if I just close the browser with unread messages when I restart the browser and come back to PU those messages are all marked as read.

It is quite annoying if you don't have time to read all the new messages but just want check something quickly to later have to hunt out unread messages that have become marked as read. I certainly have missed parts of important threads because of this.

This issue does not seem to happen on the other forums I subscribe to.

Interesting to see I am not the only one finding unread threads marked as “Read” for whatever reason, thought it was me quietly going mad or just my age!
Shame it cannot sorted out and be the same as on other Forums.

Also agree with Mike-P, very useful.

What I would really like to see - unless it's here and I'm just missing it - is a participated / subscribed threads (automatically linked once you've made a post in a thread). As I can never remember where I've posted !

And a Q. What is the difference between New Posts and Recent Forum Comments (which covers all forums) ?!
