These images are fabulous Amin, now all you need is an AF500FTZ flash. When you have one, you'll know why ? ? ? ? ?

Hi Peter

Thanks for the comment about the images .
I have the Sigma EF 530 DG SUPER , not sure how different that would be from the AF500FTZ, and by the way what is the difference between the AF500FTZ and the Pentax AF-540FGZ version?

Thanks

The AF500FTZ is an older TTL (non P-TTL) and manual flash but it has an interesting strobe function. That is, multiple flashes within one exposure.

I think it could produce some interesting 'liquid art' images.

Probably not worth buying for that alone, but it is an exceptionally good flash.

Oh, and it's a fraction of the price of an AF540FGZ, less than £100 if you are prepared to wait for one on ebay.

Amin the EF-530 DG Super also has an strobe mode so try it also I would say, would be interesting to see what it does.
It would come close to the long shutter speed - multiple flash i was suggesting.

The flash would freeze a moment when the drop falls and since it strobes you see the drop fall and hitting the water and that all in one shot.

Thanks Peter and Stefan

How do you think I managed to capture this one?

That was the function I used. In the sigma menu its called "multi flash".

But I really could do with a more powerful flashgun that could go up to 1/128, any ideas?

That looks interesting, quite nice

1/128 doesn't need to mean the flash is faster then 1/64 with another flash I believe.

Why don't you look for a studio set, the price is almost the same as a a new flashgun.

studio strobes with ultra short flash durations can get expensive....
I'd suggest looking at new or used vivitar 283 or 285's... you can short out the sensors with a jumper wire to get the lowest power setting possible which would also be the shortests flash duration possible...
you get more flash power by adding more flashes... 4 flash units are better than 1!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

That's precisely my idea. I have been wanting to do this for quite some time but do not know how to go along. I have two flashes and was looking to get a third one, but then how do I link all three so when one fires all the others also do?

I know how to do this by slaving the other two, but doesn't this prolong the time that the slave flashes remain lit?

I was kind of thinking that there might be a way of linking with cable or something like that so that when I fire the main flash all together come on at the same time

Don, thank you very much for that. I will get a couple of those.

My flashes have incorporated optical slaves, but I just wanted to make sure that when the slaves fire do they technically fire at the same time? Is there no delay at all from the slaves?

Just wanted to make sure that the duration is precisely similar to the main one if I set them up for the same duration.

thanks

Amin

in a darkened room, should be no problems.. I was doing some ballon bursts a while back and found it worked with wein peanut slaves, and vivitar 283's and pentax 500ftz, and a couple 360's
