Is Kelby's Lightroom book any good? Does he again write as if his readers are barely more than trained apes?
It is pitched at Americans!

Dave,
I have Michael Evening's book and it is about as comprehensive as you can get.
He does not get bogged down with jargon. Instructions are clear and concise and he probably knows more about Photoshop and Lightroom than anyone else!
Anything you want to know about Lightroom you'll find in his book.
You won't be disappointed, but there is a lot to learn (I'm still learning)
It's well worth persevering with though!

I have the Kelby book and find it to be excellent, clearly written and certainly didn't feel patronised in any way
Seems you have already decided you don't like his style, so probably best avoided although you could be missing out on what you want

I've got several Scott Kelby books and I must say I normally like his style of writing - I have his Lightroom 4 book and though it is ok I don't feel I've learnt as much as I would have liked from it. I find myself thinking about buying something else now - maybe the Martin Evening book - problem is these books aren't cheap!

Looking at guide books and there appears to be a choice of 3...
1)Scott Kelby
2)Victoria Bampton
3)Martin Evening
I'm leaning toward Mr. Evening's publcation as I'm not sure how much use a load of 'laid out' questions and answers will be (Bampton) and I found Mr. Kelby's series 'Digital Photography' to be written in a manner that suggested he thought his readership were slightly disabled (I learned more on this forum than from that series) and thus hold him at a level of contempt at best...
Is Kelby's Lightroom book any good? Does he again write as if his readers are barely more than trained apes?
Is Bampton's 'FAQs' actually helpful in its layout or will I end up holding her in similar contempt? (As I suspect...)
Have any of you fine Pentaxians read Evening's guide? Should I go with my gut and order a copy from my local bookseller?
My thanks in advance
Dave
