When I copied it to my software storage folder I noticed that I still had a copy of the Lightroom 3.6 update.
Lightroom 3.6 was 242,946Kb, Lightroom 4.2 is 769,437Kb, more than 3 times the size of V3.6
Now I know they've added a few modules like maps, and books (which I don't think many people use), but really, why so huge a jump in size?
EDIT: I may have answered the question myself. I'm assuming that the latest download has both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Lightroom 4 which might account for its size.
