Lightroom 4 AND Photoshop?

That's quite an interesting comment - if we open a RAW file in Photoshop, then it opens in the ACR window, within Photoshop. It doesn't have to be opened separately.
Can you expand a little please on how Lightroom is different to this? Or are you saying the Lighroom is like having ACR open in the first place?

John, you're referring to Smeggy's comment I think? Lightroom sounds as if it is very different in this respect - ACR in Elements works in the same way you just described.

There is no ACR style window John (although ACR is the engine behind it). The attached shows the develop module layout. I think that looks very similar to me Alan. This is what we get if we open a RAW file in CS5:
The extra adjustments are on tabs above the sliders area. It seems exactly the same sort of layout to me, it just opens as a large dialog box within the image area odf Photoshop.

Update have now got camera raw 6.6, did not know you only download the ZIP FILE,which you have to open and double click the patchinstaller to extract the 6.6. cant tell any difference though.Thanks

Help>about photoshop elements just shows that it is version 10 it does not say anything about ACR, yet clicking help in the acr window brings up help for elements 11 not 10.

This page and this page explains which cameras are supported by the various implementations of Adobe camera RAW (ACR), and which software supports the various versions.
Basically, if your camera was first supported in ACR version 4.x (for example), it will be supported in newer versions of ACR and whichever applications support it, but not older versions.
EG: Pentax K-5 DNG & PEF files were first supported in ACR version 6.3, Lightroom version 3.3.
If your version of Photoshop or Photoshop elements has an ACR version lower than 6.3, or your Lightroom version is lower than 3.3 your K-5 images will not be recognised, you need to update.
