Nice image Darkmunk

Can't you paint on all those changes in Lightroom?
White balance, noise reduction etc?

Lightroom, it's a development suite rather than an editing suite.

It's both Steve.
It may not be a pro level pixel paint tool like PS, but it's definitely an image 'editor' as well as a RAW 'developer'.

Photography and editing of photographs is only a fraction of the intended usage of Photoshop. People use Photoshop for making packaging, game textures, drawing, fliers, posters, digital painting, etc, etc, etc

It is becoming the norm that most productivity software strays into the territory of other specialisms. I variously use my seperate Photo, Desk Top Publishing, Vector Drawing or Web Design Software when working with graphics and or photos. They all either link to each other and / or have photo studios built in too which blurs the lines. I can't speak for the complicated american Adobe programs but my UK published Photoplus has quick select tool layouts for tailoring your screen for photo editing, designer and painting (or custom) as well as completely seperate RAW and jpeg studios with the usual filters depending on your image source.

Yes, to a limited degree, and I do. But Photoshop is so much better at the detailing.
The adjustment brushes in LR don't have as much control as the equivalent panel of sliders. Noise for instance.

You can apply noise reduction selectively with a brush in Lightroom

Pay attention at the back - it doesn't have the same extensive parameters or range, so it's very clumsy.

+1 for lightroom. I didn't find it intuitive and still don't know it well, but it is good and smeggy and others have put it well as to it's strengths.

The actual question here is about what is right for a particular, individual photographer ... In this case the OP. It is not about what individual piece of software is capable of doing everything (all that some feel they need personally and find that conveniently in an all-in-one package).

And the actual answer is going to be whatever the OP decides makes sense after reading what everyone says' and debates here.
I think that's the definition of forum isn't it?

Picture not taken with a Pentax - sorry - but was 'improved' in PSE-11...
SteveH!

Some people call me 'strange'.
I prefer 'unconventional'.
But I'm willing to compromise and accept 'eccentric'.

I agree .. Placing the fairly stereotypical UFO within an exotic and far away sounding location has really worked wonders!

Lightroom for me, I find it easer to use than Photoshop.

My partner here, who's a complete technophobe loves Lightroom.
If you're used to the old pixel editors then LR might seem really odd, but if you're coming from a clean slate, it appears to be completely intuitive
