Lightroom - Full or Upgrade?

Please excuse my computer ignorance.
I am going to upgrade Lightroom 3 to Lightroom 5. At the moment on Amazon the full version of LR5 is £72.99 and the upgrade version is £54.50. Is there any benefit in purchasing the full version over the upgrade?
Or is it pointless ordering off Amazon when for similar prices I can download direct from Adobe?

This will prove my computer ignorance even more, but is a 'hard' copy any advantage over a downloaded copy? If you download Lightroom and say your computer crashes or you upgrade the computer can you just download LR again?

If you order from Adobe's Store they will keep a record of your serial number(s). If you lose everything you can recover Lightroom and your serial number(s) from them.

Curiously, the boxed version is usually a bit cheaper than the download version.

I got my upgrade from Amazon and during the set-up I registered with Adobe so my serial number is recorded. As Peter says, you can then look at your products at the Adobe site and recover if necessary.

Just to jump on board.


Ive been using Lightroom 3 for over three years now and love it.

is there really a big jump? Worth it etc?

Apart from the extra 'editing' tools, what really appeals to me is the Map feature which was introduced in LR4.

Yes the IQ of the develop module is much better. so is the noise reduction and fringing/CA removal tools.

Plus you get the GPS tagging module which is superb ( if you're into that kind of thing.

I jumped quickly to upgrade to LR4. Love it. LR5 on the other hand I haven't bothered with as ther was hardly anything for me worth upgrading for.

One of the biggest features I want is relative develop presets and editing. It's on adobe's to do list, and I suspect it'll be in LR6

The latest version of lightroom, 5, is fantastic! The evolution of the thing is very progressive and natural path. You have to ignore the people that say such and such is crap/rubbish and then proclaim to have never used it! 12345 is the way it should be 123578 is just wrong!!

I've stayed with Lightroom 3 ... partly because I recall reading some complaints that it wasn't straightforward to migrate an existing file structure from one version to the next. I can't believe that's true, but unscrambling files is one job I do not need right now. Has anyone had any problems in that respect?

Of course, if I buy L5, that will be a sure sign that L6 is just round the corner.

Im going to stick with my Lightroom 3

I found the healing tools in LR4 a lot better than LR3. I have not bothered with LR5 as it seemed to be directed at mobile devices I don't use. Oh!! I downloaded the upgrade from the Adobe site when they had an offer on

There's nothing of that nature whatsoever. I've had the same file structure from LR2
