As Gareth said, nice composition but seems rather soft to me.

That's an interesting looking bird

It's a bit of a shame about the sharpness and ca/pf issues, however, it's still nice to see a shot of that bird.

Cheers

To have a shot of a Bird with this type of plumage does it really matter if its perfect or not?

We have a lot of Blackbirds with white plumage around us, however nowhere near this extent! And to take a picture of one at all is , to my own personal way of thinking, a result. But then again i am a mere beginner. It would be interesting to have this bird identified more closely.

I have seen an almost white blackbird, but they are unusual, and gtis shot is certainly a result as Paul says. However, on a photography site, it will (and should) invite a technical response!

I agree with the comments above which are pretty much what I was getting at.

It's not perfect but that is not the be all and end all

Ditto to all the above, if a rare opportunity presents itself you grab what you can, I've have just managed to bag my first Kingfisher, and with a 500mm lens its still very small in the frame (all 14 shots:blush but until another one decides to sit and pose I'll be keeping what I have

Who cares if Neils shot is sharp, I've never seen a Blackbird like that before and I'm grateful he's posted it for all to see

Your comment is absolutely correct! Who in their right mind finds the possibility to comment on the 'Correctness' of the shot? Probably the ones who havnt been able to capture anything similar?

And I may be wrong in this comment.

The OP did ask for C&C, the bird is not sharp so the criticism is valid. Yes, an interesting bird, but technically it is sadly lacking in several areas.

Come on guys your not quoting everything I said, I wasn't denouncing anyone for giving valid criticism I started my post with "Ditto to all the above" and "above" were previous C&C regarding the sharpness and general quality of the pic, I then added a bit about grabbing rare shots when you could.

Do pay more attention

Um....me!

I'd gonna add something as 3 people critiqued this shot on photographic merit, me being one of them and there are some comments about what was said.

At the end of the day this is a photography site with high standards of images. Yes, the shot is rather unusual and yes it should be shown but for me, if there is a problem with a shot then it needs addressing or at least mentioning. I can't say 'jolly good image' when the image in question has issues but if there is something positive to pull out then I will, in this case - the composition. If I upload an image to the 'Your Photos' section or if someone else uploads an image then its there for critique. Maybe the OP was unware it was soft, shot the image with the lens wide open and from critique, positive critique I may add, will now shoot with the lens stopped down slightly for sharper images.

In a nut shell, no one is saying that it has to be perfect but if you post an image then you have to take the rough with the smooth and be prepared for what people will say. It'd open a floodgate of poor images, whats deemed acceptable comments, lower image standards etc if we didn't critique shots, unsusal bird shot or not.

i have not complained about the criticism
and i am not going to has i asked for c&c
after all we all have to start some where
