Lenses

Forgive me if this is a stupid question
I'm toying with the idea of buying a digital SLR and as ever trying not to break the bank,will the lenses I use on my MZ30 28-80 80-320 fit and work normally .
Or will all my old kit end up in the back of the cupboard never to see the light of day again PS anyone got a cheep slr body for sale Jeff

All the lenses you can use on your MZ30 will work the same way on any of the Pentax DSLRs (and the Samsung clones) so buy with confidence and have fun!

the 80-320 in particular should make a nice long zoom, at least to be going along with.

Just buy a body, your lenses will do just fine...

...until you start wanting more...

Seriously, I've used the 28-80 on my K200d with very good results.

Don't buy a body only. Certainly use your existing lenses as well, but you're likely to need at least one new lens if you want wide angle. The DA 18-55mm does OK - which on Pentax digital provides the same field of view as 27-83mm on film.

I'm with iceblinker, the 28-80 and 80-320 will work perfectly (I still have both of mine) but taking into account the crop factor of the APS-C sensor of the DSLR these lenses will appear to have a longer focal length, the 28-80 for instance will give the same field of view as a 50-120 would on a 35mm film camera, which means if you shoot a lot of landscapes your stuffed.
The 18-55 kit lens will fill the gap nicely and it will be cheaper bundled with the camera than finding out you need it later.

with the SMC lenses that I got with my MZ30 plus the bag of manual lenses that have turned up over the years my old favorite Takumar etc used with my old MX
I think buying a used body is my best option.
However buying a used camera on line is not easy so I might have to hang on till I get some work back in the UK. Or get someone to hunt around for me.

Well after spending all my sparetime crashing about on the Mac looking at Ebay, LCE, SRS etc, I think I may have found my Camera.
A K100 with all the bits it came with !8- 55 lens cables, software and 6 months waranty 9400 clicks £199. It came out better than the *istL2 in reviews, what do you think for a first digital on a low buget? your thoughts Jeff

Do you think 9400 clicks is above or below average for a camera of this age? Difficult I know but then again how many clicks is a K100 good for? jeff
