Compatibility of film SLR flash

I have a Sunpak (Auto 36 DX) flash for use with my Super A and ME Super. It does TTL flash control on the Super A. Does anyone know if this will work on a K100D without damaging anything, and if it will, what facilities might work.

Thanks,

Ian

Hi Ian : are you the 'famous' Ian Sheppard of Brentwood who had 47 pentaxes and used to belong to Brentwood Photographic Club and photographed Foxes in the back garden ? PS I also have a Sunpak Auto 36 DX : you sold me a Pentax adapter for 10 quid but I have put back the original Olympus one and given it to my boy for his OM2n PPS It doesn't work properly on TTL metering with Pentax LX or the OM2n.
Been a member of Pentax Club since the Ron Spillman era! Got COMPUTERISED at last - DIGITISED?
Taken the PLUNGE - BUT FILM STILL RULES !!!

It shouldn't damage the K100D but you'll be restricted to Auto or Manual use as the K100D doesn't support TTL (just P-TTL).

Peter,
No I am not from Brentwood, and I don't have anything like 47 Pentaxes, 5 at the last count (MX, ME Super, Super A, Optio 50L, and K100D), but the first three of the list hardly get used now (though the Super A does have a film in it at the moment!).

Hefty1,
Am I correct to interpret your response as use the flash on auto through its own sensor, not exposure control off the camera?

You are correct.

You'll need to set the ISO and aperture values on the camera manually to match those on the flash, then let the flash do the light measurement. If you want to have the camera take care of the exposure then you'll need to invest in a more modern gun capable of P-TTL operation.

I concur with hefty1's replies. I use a Sunpak auto30DX with a K100D Super - perfectly safe. I usually use the flash in manual mode and take advantage of the output adjustment available. I don't know if the 30DX has the same feature.
