Have I made a mistake

I recently spent a fairly large sum of money on a DA*60-250f4 lens.

I shoot a lot of sport and am currently disappointed with the focusing speed when combined with my K10d. Shooting for example football, and when a player is running towards me the focus is always behind the play.

Maybe I should have spent the money on a K7 instead.

How do other people find the focus speed on this lens?

You have activated supersonic focussing, have you? I was disappointed with my 16-50 until I found I hadn't switched on the super-duper focussing.

Check that you have the latest firmware loaded in your camera. If not, update it to enable SDM lens use.

Hold down the menu button when turn the camera on and you should see the firmware version.
You need 1.3 I believe

Yes guys, I do have 1.3 firmware activated.

Looks like I may have to resort to manual focusing for the champions league qualifier I'm shooting on Tuesday!

Not very fast on my K10D to be honest.
I bought mine with the K-7 in mind though, and the fact it was cheap(ish) at the time.

Well I'm glad it is not just me. Now does anyone know how to convince my wife that a K7 is worth it.

You have to tell her you need to Speculate to get a better return on the original investment

You could just lie through your back teeth ... oh no, sorry Barrie has already suggested that.

Tested my DA* 60-250 on 3 K-7s in total, 2 early pre-production models which I had for testing (swapped them over half way through - cheers Will!) and the reps model in store at SRS. The K-7's I had were slightly faster, but the rep's model was substantially faster which is why I never did any reports on the focussing speed. If the production models are as fast as the K-7 I tried in store, then yes you will love it! The K-7 also focuses a lot better in lower light than the K20 / K10.

But is it £1,000 better?

No, you have to take some of that £1000 to better ISO than K10D (though not too improve ), alloy body, more fps, etc.

Pretty much. I use the AF button on the back of the camera. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I found the Bigma focused quicker.

Are you totally, absolutely sure you are using supersonic focussing?
