Lens Plates

I was looking for a tripod plate for my 300 a while back. I found one in the thread below but the $90 + shipping + tax put me off a little.

In the meantime Ive been using the PU60 plate that came with my new arca tripod clamp.

That was working fine but it was a little short to give me something extra to grab hold off so i went in search of a longer plate and found out that they do specific plates for longer lenses.

I ended up getting one of these EbayLink which im very happy with for 15. Its very solid on the tripod head, has a decently solid 1/4inch d ring type attachment screw, little tabs at the back of the plate to stop twisting and gives me that something extra to grab hold of.

They do various lengths, i went for the 85mm. Im not sure if this is a copy of another plate but it looks identical to a Desmond DPL-85 (which you can find in the US and find reviews on) just sold under the name Fotopanda.

70mm | 85mm | 100mm

Hope that helps anyone else looking for something similar.

I've recently bought a 140mm. Excellent product and service from a very good dealer. Took about a day to arrive in a very nice box .....

Note: Some of these have the dovetail top and bottom and can be used upside down or even joined together using one of these......

I first looked at getting a longer universal plate but then saw they made plates for lenses specifically so opted for one of them. The universal plates do seem to be cheaper but i liked the raised end of the lens plate which stops it from twisting (which i think could be quite easy with a longer plate).

Yes a dedicated antitwist plate would probably be better although it's rarely a problem as long as the screws are tight.

I've never checked how balanced my DA*300mm f/4 is on a tripod I must give it a try.
