Not that I've seen anywhere, the K100D appears to be a very well sorted model, it's great value and an excellent photographic tool. The K10D is also a great camera some have problems but like other posters have mentioned they are few and far between. However it's always an advantage to know what the potential problems are, you'll be better prepared.

As i do like to know any problems or things to watch out for.
Like when you buy a new car you check on parts the price of parts and any common problems before you hand over 35 k.
Any way ive been looking into the pentax range, among others i was keen for a k10d untill i picked one up and had a fiddle, to me it was a bit bulky and my wife wasnt too keen as it was on the huge side.
The k100d felt a bit better and fitted nicely in both of our hands, it is half the price which isnt a problem but means we could spend a little more on extras aswell as my film collection.
Ive been able to source a new k100d with one nice little lens and a 3 year Australian Warranty for $660 and a lenses and battery kit from else where new and cheap but they are only sigmas but for me they do fine.
Then there was the issue of sd cards but with your guys help that has been sorted.
Now i only have to wait for a couple of weeks till im able to get my bday prezzy
In the mean time any people who know of or have any problems with their k100Ds or any dramas that a newbie could have an issue with please let me know as I mentioned before i will be better prepared to deal with them.
Cheers Shane

Well, it would be nice to keep things in perspective. Is this solely a forum in with we discuss Pentax DSLRs without problems?
Characteristically, your first post here was to list a number of "problems". Then you admit later that most of them haven't affected you personally, and you are just repeating stuff you have heard elsewhere.
Next, you used a pejorative term favoured by the DP crowd: "fanboy". This is Goebbels-speak for anybody who doesn't share their delight in knocking whatever brand of camera they want to disparage.
Rob, it's a shame. You have enormous technical knowledge which you share happily, and this is indeed much appreciated. But you do have a bitter streak which leads you to give a distorted impression of Pentax and Pentax products. You do this by exaggerating the incidence of what is quite clearly a very limited number of problems.
There are people on the PDML who actually changed brands because of the barrage of anti-Pentax posts by you, Herb Chong, Tom C, and one or two others. Marnie is a case in point. She made the mistake of believing Herb Chong's assertions that Pentax was going bust. In fact, Pentax have never made a loss (at least in the last twenty years or so), but you wouldn't know that from Chong's highly slanted analysis.
So, welcome to Pentax User, but please recognise that the approach here is a little different from that of DPReview.

This (my) thread is going pathetic...
Could you please stop throwing sand at each other like kindergarden and stick to the subject?
My veiwfinder is off, whether some like it or not. I certainly donīt, but I hope itīll be fixed in the near future.
Moderators; Please lock (or delete, your chice) this thread and we will all be better off. We can let the poll in the matter talk for itself instead.

I'll answer this whilst attempting to respect Mats.Characteristically, your first post here was to list a number of "problems". Then you admit later that most of them haven't affected you personally, and you are just repeating stuff you have heard elsewhere.
Yes my first post wasn't the most complementary however this thread is the reason that I registered and posted. There was a link to it in a DPR post and given that I was suffering precisely the same problem with my K10D and having problems getting it rectified I contacted Mats. Yes I have heard of the problems I cited but just because the other problems haven't occurred in my K10D doesn't mean that they aren't worth considering or are false claims in some way.
I'm in contact with at least three other K10D owners across the globe who are going through pretty much the same exercise WRT to the VF alignment. Each are having various degrees of success in having the problem dealt with by their respective Pentax service centres in a professional manner.
I've had my K10D for almost ten months and I've shot more images with my *ist D during the same time. The finder issue is real and its preventing me from using with confidence an otherwise excellent camera. I'm here for assistance, not to be ear bashed.
Cheers,

OK. See you around. And don't worry about Mats. He's new and doesn't know that we don't usually need moderator intervention.George Lazarette wrote:

Hey,
Tom C here. For the record I haven't switched brands from Pentax. Furthermore I would not switch brands just because Herb Chong or Rob Studdert said something negative regarding Pentax, though I share their views.
I'm a big boy and can think for myself.
I probably will change brands in the near future though, because I don't see the Pentax brand meeting my photographic desires in the near future.
I'll likely keep my Pentax gear as a backup and largely because of the 31/1.8 LTD lens.

I've seen a lot of pctures posted on this site and none of them seem to be leaning, why is that ? is it because they have been put right in the likes of photoshop or is it because there really was'nt a leaning problem in the first place.
I must say that i have experienced this problem but i just assumed it was me not not the camera. But when lining the veiw finder up with a straight edge, like a window frame or some thing simillar there was no leaning problem, but i did have to concentrate. So what do we do, do we just carry on and straighten it out later or send the camera back, and how long will that take.
Oh dear decisions, desicions, decicisions.

I can assure you that if you have a camera body which exhibits tilt you won't have to work to see it. If the vast majority of your images appear to tilt in the same direction and if you have never experienced this type of occurrence when using other bodies I would think about trying some basic tests to determine if your body has an integral alignment error. I've seen a lot of pctures posted on this site and none of them seem to be leaning, why is that ? is it because they have been put right in the likes of photoshop or is it because there really was'nt a leaning problem in the first place.

If your images have some occasional random tilt I'd put it down to human frailty and try to ignore the odd occurrence.
Who would want to be without their camera and have to negotiate the perils of camera repair if they really didn't have to, not me, that's for sure.

What worries me is the prospect of this list degenerating into another nitpickers' forum like DPReview. It's nothing to do with Pentax; all brands suffer from a small but vocal group of people who expect their equipment to be more than perfect, and whine and whinge endlessly when it isn't.

And all the sniping makes this thread rather depressing reading

I happened across this thread, and I'd been wondering why my pictures on a newly-purchased GX10 never seemed quite straight... so I carefully set up a little test. Using a mirror, and setting the camera so that it was half-way up the mirror as seen through the viewfinder, I meticulously set the tripod position so that the very edge of the outer frame was exactly touching the edge of the viewfinder frame. It helped that the mirror frame had the same proportions as the viewfinder.
Here's the resulting image:

Ignore the fact that the tripod itself isn't vertical, the camera was adjusted using the flipped top plate. Also ignore the distortion in the mirror, it is the outer frame that is the subject here. It is noticeable that the amount that the viewfinder image is cropped is not the same all round, there is hardly any cropping at the bottom of the image (when in landscape mode) and much more at the top. It is the lean that concerns me, anything architectural or with strong lines will need to be straightened in post processing, which is a chore...
So, an honest question - is the end result acceptable ? I don't mean to Samsung or Pentax, I mean to a user...

If I were the end user, I would not be happy with it and I'd return it to Pentax for repair and an explanation. So, an honest question - is the end result acceptable ? I don't mean to Samsung or Pentax, I mean to a user...
My K10D doesn't exhibit this symptom, but I'll be watching out for it.

Good test karma, much prettier than mine! lol. An update on my side of things... I've sent mine back to the place I bought it, as it was JUST inside their 30 day returns policy. They will hopefully replace the body, and my 50-200mm kit lens which the AF motor died on completely

Further down is a post from Rob, who spends quite a lot of time complaining about Pentax on a number of other lists, including the PDML and DPReview. He is aggrieved because Pentax cancelled the original MZ-D after he had invested in a lot of expensive lenses (see the PDML archive from three years or four years ago) and, like a woman scorned, loses no opportunity to bring Pentax's imperfections to as wide a public as possible.
I am indeed no Pentax Fanboy, I simply use the gear and lots of it. I don't suffer fools and I don't like being shafted by manufacturers, who would. I offer my advice and experience in all things Pentax for free and strangely I'm generally appreciated. It's all in the archives anyway I don't need to defend myself here.
Thanks again.
