No new lenses for six months, I thought I had kicked this problem for good, now we talk about LBA, and the mind thinks............hmmmmm, Friday is payday

I am suffering from BPBA. (I know that isn't a TLA and is therefore not trendy.) Bit-and-pieces buying addiction is trying to get the correct lens hoods, cases, cables and bits and pieces to go with the lenses and cameras I already own. Mind you, I have been wandering around Stanton, North Dakota (population maybe 1000?) with a Lubitel 2. Getting some very funny looks from the locals....

Is the Lubitel any good? I suspect like most Russian kit it vary a lot. But I am tempted by a TLR - although the Flexaret would be my choice I think as they were as I recall very well made.

Used to have a Lubitel and it was pretty good - some vignetting and softness around the edges, but got some nice atmospheric black and white shots out of it.

Mine cost about £15 brand new years ago, and it sold on Ebay for £60! To be honest, I think the buyer was absolutely barmy, and I wouldn't pay more than £30-£40 for one.

As for the price of the new version that Lomo has produced: totally ridiculous and best left for people with more money than sense!

Vignetting? Softness - well I suppose for an old design I can accept that to some degree but vignetting. Tsk. Where was Stalin when you needed him

I think I recall them costing 15 quid when I was a nipper. I got a Rolleicord for 15 quid that was tatty as hell but worked well after I araldited some bits back on. I still have it but I think the lenses are hazed.

I bought a new Lubitel 166U in the mid 1990s - paid £30 for it. Got some decent photos but I wasn't particularly discerning then so I dread to think what I'd make of them now!

I have been tempted by one of those (relatively) cheap Bronicas on ebay, only snags are that my daylight dev tank doesn't take 120 film and neither does my film scanner...

Not bought anything in ages, I'm a bloody disgrace to you all, but I'm getting withdrawal symptoms

Not got one since Feb last year. Looks like I am ill.....Mind you I already have 23 lenses......

I am definitely suffering from withdrawal symptoms....there's nowhere to buy lenses here and I don't really trust the post.

I've also not been able to take any pics recently as I am too busy studying. Mind you, it's 45 degrees during the day, 35 at night, and lots of sandstorms, so not really the weather for it. I'll have to get the tammy out and shoot macros round the house...............

About time I got a flash...I also want a Sigma 10-20 and the Bigma seems strangely alluring.....


But I should be going to Hong Kong and Singapore soon.....soon.....

Yesterday I had one brand new AF lens arrive from HK, and today I had a cheap M42 jobbie from Fleabay. Burning the candle at both ends, but I think I've got enough to cover everything now. Certainly got more lenses than skill, so shall go forth and practice!

Well...apart from a real macro lens. The home-converted extention tube is quite fun but something longer would be nice.

Maybe I should get something in M42 or Adaptall in view of the state of the bank balance. Hmm. NO! MUST RESIST!

I'm looking at a cheap but working early K1000 (has serial stamped on top plate and the little lump to the right of the rewind crank, I suspect that makes it one of the original Japanese-made ones?). The light meter doesn't work but I'd bet that's down to corroded contacts.

What I can't fathom is why. See, I have a very tidy K1000 already (one of the Hong Kong examples, still all metal and with AOCo lettering stamped on the pentaprism) that I never use now as it just can't match the MX or even the KM.

The lure of adding an early example of such a classic to my collection is very strong though!
