Hi folks my Samsung laptop hard drive decided to give up the ghost.So I fitted a new one and installed a new OS Windows 7 home premium 64bit all working fine except that it now will not connect wirelessly to the internet. when I check adaptor settings the wireless adaptor does not show up only the ethernet adaptor shows.I know it is there and working as I have ran a Linux OS and it connects via wireless no problem.Any of the computer whiz's out there got a clue where I am going wrong

I am guessing the driver for your wireless card is not present. Open 'Start' and enter 'mmc devmgmt.msc'.
This will run Device Manager, you will see a section called 'Network Adadptors', expand this and look for your wireless card. There will be a least one entry for your ethernet card, plus there maybe one with an exclamation or question mark which the system cannot identify. This will be your wireless card, you will may have a disk with drivers or need to download one from Samsung. If you can get the driver files , right click the card and choose 'Update driver', try an automatic update but if that fails go to their stored location (C drive or CD) and they should install.

Alternatively it could the card is disabled for some reason, right click and choose 'Enable'.

You will need administrator rights to do any of the above.

Not sure if the suggestion below will help but I have three PC's and on one of them I have a problem connecting to the internet when using IE.

It seems that the computer reverts to a setting in the connections tab (get to it as shown below) that request connection "via a proxy server" instead of "automatically detect settings" which is the correct setting.

So if the previous suggestions don't do it try the following:

Open the browser;
Click tools >> options >> connections >> lan settings >>

The only box that requires a tick is. "automatically detect settings"

You might see that the " use a proxy sever " is ticked if so be sure to untick it

Exit by clicking OK

Two of my machines to not suffer with this " involuntary deviation in settings" but one does and no matter what I do it happens repeatedly and I simply go through the sequence mentioned above.

I have sought a permanent fix for this irritating problem from many experts, forums and blogs but nothing completely sorts it out; the connections setting seemingly "reticks itself" - must be a gremlin ?

I am not a computer expert so maybe someone reading this can comment or even describe another possible solution to prevent the mysterious corruption of the connection settings.

Nb. This Pc connects automatically (normally) on reboot, it connects automatically on return from hibernation too.

For further clarification; this PC does not connect on wake up;

from sleep, if the sleep mode is initiated by closing the lid or pressing the starrt button,

or following a sleep sequence initiated by the power mgt process.

Good luck

Not sure what you mean geordie01, there are no missing posts, do you mean the green highlighting has disappeared? Did you mark some posts as helpful?
Best regards, John

I've looked at the audit trail and there are no missing posts in this thread, so I can only p[resume there's another thread on the same subject, or that's crossed over into the same subject.
Best regards, John
