KR TO K30

I've no experience whatever with the KR but I have a K30 and the image quality is superb - comparable to that of the Mk1 K5, which I also have. I imagine the IQ is better on the K30 than the KR which is a much earlier model. The K30 also has weather sealing - does the KR? Price wise, I haven't a clue of the difference between the KR and the K30.

Any reason why you're not considering the Kx? I've got one and can highly recommend it. There are always a handful for sale..seem to be going for about £150-£180 depending on mileage and condition.

Hi, I have a K-30 also and simply highly recommend it. With the K-30 on run out, I think it was the biggest bang for your buck purchase in a long while.Have you posted any shots with the K30 you could link me to please.

The K-30 is very snappy processor wise so I find it very good to use from an operator perspective. The focus seems snappy and accurate and all in all I've found it a huge improvement over the K100D I had previously.
For what it's worth, most recent photos on my profile are from the K-30 here
This might give you an idea. (I recently brought out the K100D again on a few, but just check the EXIF data for details).

I used to have a KX wich is very simular to the KR, and have upgraded to the K30. I think the K30 has slightly better image quality but th KX/KR are very good. I think the metering is a bit better and i think it retains highlights a little easier
The K30 also has over advantages though such as dual dials, beter viewfinder and focus peaking.
Both cameras are very capable

I would go for a K30.
I jumped from K-r to K30 and have to say, faster and accurate AF, better grip, weather resistant, focus peaking, dual dials (very addicting), pentaprism, etc.
K-r from what i have discovered
lighter, thinner, cheaper,a bit longer battery life.

Thanks for the feed back. I feel the K30 is a better equiped camera compared to the KR or the KX and would offer her more for the money althouth she will have to pay more for that I know.

Ian,
Good choice with the K30. It will be a great first DSLR and hopefully she will be impressed.
As a caring uncle, buy her a DA35, DA50 and a couple of cheap old K or M manual primes, and she will be addicted to Pentax, she won't consider another brand in the future......
