Thanks Ian. But still have one sigle mark when aperture falls down to f6.3 or smaller. But it's much better than before.

I haven't checked my KR for sensor marks.
Who decides how much is too much and what is acceptable, surely the owner shouldn't decide whether the problem is a defect or just a dirty sensor.
I would be happy to return my camera to the shop, where they can check it, under instruction from Pentax of course.
A product re-call should happen,if your camera's serial no fits.
I imagine that all stockists have been advised on a course of action to be taken by Pentax-at least I would hope so.

I have the problem with my K-5. There are two spots, both small but one quite dark. They only show up in rather extreme cicumstances eg F22 and uniform bright surface like sky or a white wall.
I emailed Pentax UK support and they proved quite helpful with a very rapid (same day) respose. They asked for photos and this was their final suggestion:-
"On the pictures you sent us we can clearly see two dots, but they don't look like the staines we are talking about, it looks more like normal dust.
I would advise you to check if these dots can be removed by professional cleaning.
Also, when looking at the sensor through a professional magnifier these dots will show.
If the dots can not be removed by professional cleaning the dots are between the sensor and the filter, and in that case your camera will be replaced.
I hope that your question has been answered to your satisfaction.

That's the first time as far as I know that someone from Pentax has said that the dots are between sensor and filter. Does that mean the story about them being within the glass is just made up?

So they will only accept it's a fault if the person who did the cleaning got paid for it?
And what on earth is a 'professional' magnifier? - HAHA
Good luck btw - and I hope you get a clean one by X-mas

If the town of my birth was on your sensor I think you'd be able to see it

When I sent the camera to Johnsons Photopia Ltd I clearly stated that this was a warranty issue. I do not expect to receive a bill. I shall be very surprised if cleaning gets rid of the spots.

What if you do a scan on the sensor in camera and there is no dust shown yet still the blotches show on the large jpeg file. Will Pentax accept there is a problem.

Well that was my problem as the spots did not show up on dust alert. That is why I sent the camera to Johnsons Photopia as they do Pentax's warranty work. They will either have to clean the sensor successfuly which would be fine or if they cannot get rid of the spots they will have to exchange the camera. I just hope they can do one or the other quickly.
