Kingfisher update

Some pictures from this morning. Again all with the K-5 and Sigma 150-500. First one pretty much fills the frame like those taken yesterday. With the others I've managed some different and more challlenging shots. Maybe not all successfully.

A superb series of shots-well done

This is just getting silly now Alan - stop it please before those of us who have been trying for one half decent kingfisher shot for years have to spend a fortune on therapy

Once again - WOW - some may not be 100% perfect in all respects - as the last set were - but I absolutely love the movement you have captured and would be proud of any one of them

He is kind of rubbing salt in the wound now, but you have to admire them don't you.

Dam this set, it's brilliant, I think we should ban him.

The poses are all terrific but I'm not sure about the image quality. Some appear rather noisy even at these small sizes. A bit strange why this should be for the K5, not sure how they'd look at the large sizes that images like this deserve to be viewed at.

Hi Dr. The 3 hover shots were immediately after I had zoomed out to 210mm for the reflection shot. The kingy then flew up and further away. I fired 3 shots off and then zoomed into about 450mm to try and get another few, Unfortunately the Siggy lost focus and just hunted, so I've had to crop the 210mm shots quite a bit.
Next mistake I made was load them onto Flickr and here before I applied sharpening (other than default Lightroom of 25) and noise reduction. If I re-publish I think the pics in the original post will disappear. This mistake I put down to excitement

Blythman , these are great how much did you have to pay the Kingfisher to let you do those hover shots . I'm dead jealous ... Jeff

Some great images. I have only ever seen a Kingfisher once, and did not have a camera, I have tried looking for them when I have had a camera but have not been lucky so far. You make it look easy!

You can get into a lot of trouble on this Forum for non technical remarks, but here goes anyway.

These are fantastic captures - truly superb.

However I'm not 100% sold on the processing though I can't put my finger (at nearly 05.00 in the morning) on exactly what it is that's bothering me.

This, and the previous set, are truly deserving of the high praise heaped upon them. It has been immensely satisfying to pore over each shot and revel in their artistry and technical mastery. The many hours spent planning and patiently watching have been fulsomely rewarded

I, too, fulfilled recently the long-held ambition of capturing a kingfisher on film/sensor (hence the change in avatar), and had been looking forward to uploading examples onto the forum in the anticipation of a generally positive response from other users. Whilst I shall still do so at some point, it will be with a more realistic (or should that be "modest") assessment of my own achievments

Wow! Alan these are fab.
I love 4, (apparently) swooping into the frame and applying the brakes - such beautiful shapes and colours.
And the last one from underneath, very different, well lit, and again, beautiful; I like the painterly effect on his body and the fact that it's blurred apart from the head.
You clearly have the knack with a long lens, steady hands indeed.

As the kingy had appeared both Saturday and Sunday morning between 7 and 8am, I thought I'd pop down before work and get some more. Well I should know it doesn't work like that. He? was a no show. Guess I used up my luck at the weekend. Still if the weather is ok tomorrow, I might get up at 5am again.

Jon, I look forward to seing your images when you share them. I think everyone appreciates the time and effort that can be spent getting them. As to my images, I was just fortunate with circumstances. The more time you put in the more luck you have
