k7 settings?

Am loving my new k7, but I did notice that the pictures aren't as contrasty or maybe not as sharp as what I had achieved on k2000? I know the default setting is on "bright", but is there adjustments you K7 owners make to sharpness and contrast? Or is this a preferable way, and make any adjustments on the computer later? Thanks for any opinions on this.

Pictures naturally won't be as sharp on a pixel level because the camera has higher resolution, but they should look sharp as a whole.

Personally I like to shoot RAW then process on my computer, but you might want to try +1 or +2 Sharpness with JPEG. Better to leave contrast at medium because high contrast will more often blow highlights and loose detail in the shadows.

It's possible that some AF Adjustment might be required if you still don't get sharp pictures, but don't rush to assume that's necessary.

For JPG it's the best to get it as good as you can in the camera since the room you've to alter things on the PC is limited and destructive with JPG.

I'm sure some have advice on the settings but it remains a personal choice of course, just play with it yourself is my advice.

just a things though I believe some said one option gets you more noise then others, don't know how or which one it was though.

Thanks Pete! No, I think the sharpness is fine as far as being in focus. I guess its more of a contrasty thing. And it could have something to do with my Tamron 18-200 lens I am using right now, too. Not the sharpest or most "contrasty" lens in the world?

You might also want to try Fine Sharpness and Fine Sharpness 2, turned up to +1 or +2 (or even more). These put a light outline around objects to give a more punchy appearance. Not as natural as normal Sharpness, though.

Fine Sharpness 2 is included in the firmware update and gives a stronger effect than the other settings.

Thanks Pete! I have that yet to do...firmware update. Plan on doing that later today. Will try your suggestions. Not a big deal, at any rate. I am just in the "getting to know camera mode" right now. Appreciate all the great advice.

Hi
I'm also finding the K7 images not as punchy or sharp as I expected. I have come from a Fuji 9600 which had much higher clarity and sharper punchy images. Probably over vibrant.
I have played with the in camera sharpness settings and find only slight improvement, however I have selected the in camera VIBRANT setting. This has transformed the images they are sharper and much easier on the eye. The default BRIGHT setting is what gives images a washed out tone. In addition I have almost stopped using the AWB altogether as this gave some of my images colour cast which softened the images too much. I have compared RAW and JPEG images with these settings. When opening both types up in Photoshop Elements they are both very acceptable. The RAW images are slightly better quality but straight from the camera not much to choose between. I am interested to see what I can do with the RAW files in Photoshop if I ever get time.

If you're not into post processing on the computer, you can develop RAW shots in camera, remember. That way you can experiment with the picture modes and WB settings and see the results straight away

What happened to Vjay anyway?

Actually there seems to be a lot of people that join, have a little burst of posts and then disappear. :

I guess if someone wants to unload some problem they might do that and then, having satisfied the need, they don't reappear. That's fair enough, all part of the service!

I'm not referring to any individual when I say that by the way!
Best regards, John
