easy enough to lower prices if it doesn't sell...in fact, being electronics, they will have to lower the price later anyways...BUT...if they start off too low, they can't very well raise the prices without getting called a rip off......
Very fair point.
With the current announced price it will place his self between the Canon 50D and the Nikon D300 so that also seems fair enough for a new product, probable after two/three months the price when the new status is off from it. It will drop in price and might even become cheaper then the 50D to steal some customers from Canon.

[quote:3496ace15f="scottie"]£1199 at that price i'm definitely moving full time onto nikon when the K200D dies of death. I recently payed a good price for D300 and its a fantastic bit of kit. forgive my being presumptuous, but i cant see the K7 being as good as the D300, when you consider the cost of the D300 is the same or less depending on where you shop. and thats with the 2 prices hikes by nikon this year!
And I hope you like having to pay for Nikon Glass, it may be good, but so expensive.
Also the D300 is due for the chop with a newer version soon.
Actually go and have a look at the price of Nikon glass compared to Pentax, you might be shocked as a lot of the primes are cheaper on the Nikon 35mm F1.8 £190, 50mm f1.8 £110, 85mm f1.8 £330 and the 16-85 VR zoom probably the sharpest standard lens in the world a shade over £400 and of course the Tokina 16-50 and 50-135 are available in Nikon mount for about the same price as the Pentax. Not knocking Pentax but the days of cheap glass for any brand are over.
But what is forgotten is the image stabilisation, get into the longer lengths where it is required, the 70-200 VR £1549.[/quote]Sorry to butt in if I appear not to know what I am talking about as I am new to all this. However, I have been enquiring with the London Camera Exchange to buy my first macro lens and they have warned me that all the Pentax kit will be shotting up in price around July due to the $/£ exchange differences. They said Canon and Nikon kit had already taken the hit. A Pentax 105mm (I think it was)macro lens was quoted as being £499 now which they said was the same price as the Sigma, but in July they said the Pentax would increase to £699.

Like I said sorry if I am speaking out of turn.

I think you are probably thinking of the Pentax 100mm Macro lens.
SRS are a lot cheaper than £499 .. LINK HERE but the prices are due to go up on the 1st June although Chris has said he will hold prices for as long as possible.
There are also cheaper options such as the Tamron 90mm and Sigma 105mm macro lenses.

No problem PentaxBabe because that sounds right unfortunately. The £1199 for the K-7 is inclusive of the price rise though, so that will not go up again on 1st June when the new prices come into effect.

That's much too much. Sterling has fallen by about 26% against the yen in the past year. So a 26% increase in price would give about £630.00

Yet the daft thing is the DA* 60-250mm f4 is actually the same here in the as the USA. It was £799 when Chris first got it in and now £899 but in the USA cheapest price is approx $1400 (approx £890) so it was cheaper at one stage.

Remember that the US price is without taxes. Add 15% to make a comparison.

Makes it £1023.50, therefore cheaper in the UK.

Yes interesting read isn't it but I think it's more of a Preview rather than a review

I think dp have mentioned that it will be some while before they have a full review up...

Statements like this really make me smile.
If I want to spend my money on something that gives me pleasure then why not? I don't drink anymore, I gave up smoking 6 years ago and we rarely go out for a meal because our son needs constant care so if I (or anyone else for that matter) wants to buy a new camera, car, kitchen or even a ocean going yacht then just be happy for them.

Saying that .. Im waiting for the cashback at Xmas.

Works for me Peter (Firefox 3.0.10). Just go to dpreview's site and look under Reviews / Previews

Well said Mike, I quite honestly couldn't care what people spend their money on or when they spend it. It's their money not mine after all
