K7 rippoff

SRS has a try out day the 6th of Juni so that's also quite strange.
Also Juli is the date that I've heared it will be here so am I missing something here or will the UK be later then the rest

SRS is saying arrive in June - this would be about the same time difference as between official K20D announcement and the first availlability in UK.

SRS and and Park Cameras (along with others) may get stock earlier due to being Pro Dealers...

Still that doesn't explain that we Dutch get the news it will come in Juli and you in the UK get it a month later, doesn't make much sense to me

Actually go and have a look at the price of Nikon glass compared to Pentax, you might be shocked as a lot of the primes are cheaper on the Nikon 35mm F1.8 £190, 50mm f1.8 £110, 85mm f1.8 £330 and the 16-85 VR zoom probably the sharpest standard lens in the world a shade over £400 and of course the Tokina 16-50 and 50-135 are available in Nikon mount for about the same price as the Pentax. Not knocking Pentax but the days of cheap glass for any brand are over.

But what is forgotten is the image stabilisation, get into the longer lengths where it is required, the 70-200 VR £1549.

Probably stating the obvious, but it seems to me that a price increase across the board and launching a very expensive new product whilst discontinuing their reasonably priced mid-range product at the same time isn't exactly the smart thing for Pentax to do in the current economic climate... In fact Sony are launching a new range right now too - but look at Sony's track record...

I've been saving up for a few months to buy my first digital SLR and really want to buy into the Pentax brand (a million good reasons for not wanting to choose any other) and I'm a bit put off by this approach

Admittedly their macro lenses are much more expensive. I'm just old fashioned and the range of short fast cheap primes Nikon do suits me. Never had shake reduction before so while it's an advantage I don't miss what I never had.
If I did want to move back to Pentax it would just be nice if I could get short fast primes at Nikon prices.

I do miss my FA135mm F2.8 though.

The K200D has also been discontinued and by Xmas I bet we will see a trimmed down K-7 as a replacement for both these models. As for other price rises I suppose people will still keep buying lenses and a small profit on a high price is better than a loss on a low price.
No matter what the economic climate if you are making a loss due to the increase in costs and fluctuation in currency you aren't going to be around long unless your increase prices.

I still think they should do the K-7 as a loss leader to get people interested in Pentax again though

That wouldn't have any hidden undertones of self interest would it

easy enough to lower prices if it doesn't sell...in fact, being electronics, they will have to lower the price later anyways...BUT...if they start off too low, they can't very well raise the prices without getting called a rip off......
