Well I had to do it .. took the battery off charge for one shot and then back again. 349 actuations .. started at file number 1.
Sounds like a demo unit from a shop, or one that was returned because the owner didn't like the label (or prefered a P&S!). You got a real bargain at that price and the lens too - you swine
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...

Well done to those that took a risk and bought one. (Although I guess the worst that could have happened is you'd get refunded). Fortune favours the brave.

I have read that it's not unusual for a brand new camera to have that amount of shots on the clock due to testing before Pentax dispatch. :

This is the ex-demo Canon EOS 450D 18-55mm IS Kit that went for £110 link
The girl that bought it sounds happy from the feedback she's just left.

I could have bought it but I don't want a Canon

Well done Mike! I hope you have lots of fun with your bargain.

Like Peter I'm not jealous, well not much. Maybe just a little bit. Oh all right then, yes, I am dead jealous.

Mine's working fine! Image count was 1, but the exif gave it 460 actuations. On the other hand, my brand new k20d had 266 actuations at its first image, so I'm not worried about the discrepancy.

It's a lovely camera and I'm impressed with both the focus screen and autofocus speed.
