I had no difficulty with Argos getting a cheap Philips kettle replaced when it developed a loose lid (actually a design fault because the replacement developed the same problem). However, I imagine it wouldn't have been so easy trying to explain a fault on a sophisticated camera - e.g. a metering or back focus problem!

Has anyone got theirs yet? They took my money and said they would be in contact by 25th Jan to arrange delivery. I have heard nothing since day one

Same here. Order status just says they'll contact regarding delivery. Initial email did say by 25th but that has been and gone.

This comment is addressed to all reading this, who have ordered a K-50 & 18-135 kit from Argos.
Before I retired I was a Trading Standards Officer specialising in consumer advice.

If you have ordered and paid for goods and they have not arrived within the stated time frame a breach of contract has occurred. As such you are entitled to pursue Argos in the matter and either chase them up seeking fulfilment of your order or if for any reason they cannot do so, a prompt, full refund. If you have paid using a creditcard then by virtue of S75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 the credit card issuer is also liable if Argos are not obliging. As the same kit is available elsewhere albeit at a higher price you may have a legal argument to pursue Argos for 'loss of bargain' ( the difference in price if you now pay more for the same goods). If you are minded to pursue for this loss I would first suggest getting free up to date advice from the National Consumer helpline (tel: 03454 040506 Mon- Fri 9-5)

As an aside, on 7th January I took up the Argos offer via their Ebay outlet shop and purchased the K-50 +18-135 kit anticipating delivery between 23-25 February. However I received an email and phone call within two days and a courier delivered the kit on 10th January. I have tried out the lens on my K-30 and it works fine. The white K50 is still packaged in the box and I have no reason to doubt it too will be OK. I am undecided whether to keep the k-50 so might consider selling it.

So, I phoned Argos Customer Service today and was told that the order had been cancelled by them due to "pricing error" and my payment would be refunded to my credit card. I pointed out that nobody had informed me of this and that over three weeks is, in my opinion, a long time to determine a pricing error, especially as in the meantime I have had to settle my credit card balance.

So, I have today sent a polite email to the CEO of Home Retail Group to point out my issues and see if he will honour the original price and send me the camera and lens.

Let's see how responsive Argos / HRG will or will not be before I decide if and how to pursue further.

I was told on Thursday last week that their supplier would be in contact within 48 hours to arrange delivery. I waited for their call. On Monday I replied to their reply to my initial complaint over non-delivery. Today they replied and stated "I can see that you have now cancelled this order." I never cancelled the order or even threatened to cancel it. Flabbergasted at how useless they are!

In fact looking at my online credit card statement I now see that they refunded me on 31st January without ever emailing me or calling. On logging in to my Argos account it still shows as a live order with a status of "We're sorry but we can't provide an online update for this order." Apart from the initial email confirmation of the order, I never got any communication from them other than replies to my formal complaint.

Utterly useless company.

I has a message on my home phone on Monday from the Director's office in Home Retail Group in response to my email to the CEO. This was a message to call them to resolve the issue with me. I called back and just got voicemail. I called again today and got voicemail again. I will keep trying and post an update when I do actually speak to someone about this.

Thanks Roy. I see from Marketing Week that Argos want to "become a leader in digital retail and stave off competition from online-only retailers such as Amazon." Long way to go then!

So, I finally spoke to the Director's office. They won't give me the lens and camera at the advertised price and a 20 Argos voucher was offered as compensation. I initially refused but, with a builder extending my house who is currently claiming it is impossible to build the extension to the architect's diagrams I have other fights that need my energy, so I caved and accepted.

I don't think I'll bother with any further Argos "too good to be true" deals. Amazon pricing glitches I have never had a problem with them honouring.

A few years ago I think it was Curry's who had the whole website priced too low, but fair play to them they honoured all the orders.
