there are those of us who like a bit of engineering and those of us who prefer our tech from the inside of a cracker!

Wow... are you kidding?! I'd say build-wise, the 50D probably feels ever so slightly tougher than the K5, albeit it isn't so well sealed.

If we get a grip on reality, we would see that top pro's and those who do the same work without being paid use cameras that are tough enough to get through rain, sand, mud, heat and cold without fail. All partnered by there own brand lenses.

With the 2012 Olympics coming to a screen near you, lets do a brand count and post the results.

I could say the same about my D700 but to what end? My K7 gets just as much use.

Best regards

Much of this is down to on-site backup, with replacement bodies and lenses being continuously available. The show must go on under these circumstances. Nikon and Canon tend to offer extensive facilities.

Don't get the idea that these cameras are trouble-free, because they are not.
Best regards, John

Quite right John.

To date, I must be picking up a good one with regards to bodies. I have had no issues with any brand DSLR body that I've bought.

Nothing wrong with enthusiasm. I personally like to asses all options and see benefits in other brands as well as my Pentax kit. I did not compare my K7 against the D700 as it was a pointless exercise. Two very different machines in their own right.

Best regards
