K5 What a Genius

When it all boils down,it's the man...or woman that presses the shutter that shows how good a camera is!....I think we often forget that in our quest for "better" and "better" cameras!

I find this rather strange- who is the competition? Presumably Canon Nikon etc..????- that makes us Pentax in some way- clearly not the case, i just own some of their gear- just like I have a Volvo and not a Ford.

I would think "the competition" are all other photographers if that's how you view it.

Unless you are a Pentax shareholder, in which case ignore the above.

I have decided, and told my partner that I simply have no excuses any more! The weakest link is definitely me

But sadly my perception since having owned a Pentax and reading forums and flickr groups is that a fair number of Pentax owners do seem to have a chip on their shoulder in this regard - just look at the number of mentions of "Canikon" ... now I've been interested in photography for around 30 years and have never heard of such a brand.

when Canon and Nikon devotees have a pop to me, and I could be mistaken, it always seems good natured and tongue in cheek banter .. it feels rather different with the Pentax Fanboys.

I like stuff about my K200D , I love my 50D's and loved the 400D before I broke it.

The 500D jury is still out and K5 similar - handling, design, layout etc fab ... results not decided for certain yet.

Hence my suggestion we all use emoticons when slagging off the competition, it's then perfectly clear that it's meant tongue in cheek (to most people at least) Lets rise above this belief that Pentax owners have a chip on their shoulders.

And one final thought, Remember that mud sticks........

My first digital camera was an ION. I believe it was the very first digital camera, albeit it recorded stills in analogue video. Then I bought the Mk2 version. Guess they are collectors items now.
Previous to that I had had a brief skirmish with a Zenith SLR followed ASAP by an ESII, ME, MX and K2. I got CBA (a similar affliction to LBA!)
I've still got them all. Eventually I wanted a DSLR and the best buy looked to be an EOS300D. But I was never overly keen on it and missed using my array of old PK lenses. To replace these with modern Canon equivalents would have broken the bank. Then one day I spotted an ad in the paper for a K100D on special offer. It was reasonable and I bought it on spec just to use my old lenses. Then having used it I thought the resultant photos from the standard lens blew away what I was getting from the 300D. I did some lens comparison tests and found the standard Pentax zoom was a great lens compared to the Canon equivalent. LBA and CBA then recommenced with a K-m, a K200D, a Samsung 20D and now a K-5. If Canon had provided a half decent standard lens I may well have stuck with them. Even their prosumer zoom paled to the Pentax equivalent. I'm sure the best of Canon is good but not the ones I had! What's more, while I was saving up for the newer Pentax digital lenses I had a good range of old ones I could use in the meantime. It seemed a much better bet.

I think Pentax lost their way in the ist era when these cameras looked pretty pricy for a plasticy looking camera, nothing like my old ME/MX etc. From the K series I reckon Pentax got back on track and agree with the OP that the K-5 is indeed genius! I wouldn't want any other DSLR apart from perhaps a full frame K-?? that is no larger than the K-5. I'd love a full frame DSLR but not one of those huge things that I could if I wanted go out and buy today. So let's hope the progress continues.

My Canon shooting work mate calls my K5 a toy camera and not a real mans camera. All tongue in cheek of course

Why do togs talk about other brands of camera`s on a Pentax site,it would seem a site dedicated to their brand would give them more information.

You meant your K5 is bigger than his.........

The term Canikon is a courtesy to Canon and Nikon owners so that web searches don't throw up hundreds of non related results from Pentaxians talking twaddle.

If you look hard enough you can always find 'reds under the bed' but most often its in your mind
