The firmware update is a separate download and fixes the battery indicator giving a false reading. Instructions included that should be followed carefully with a fully charged battery (ironically)
The software update (covers all recent models) will be for the photo software useful for reading and converting RAW images but quite complex compared to other software on the market to use. There is otherwise nothing essential on your disc.

I've also emailed the Pentax support, to let them know.
I'm on Snow Leopard, which is 10.6+, I think.

Yes Tiger, I'm using 10.6. I usually use Photoshop. I presume that'll do the trick?
I presume from some of the comments here, that this disk doesn't really contain anything crucial to operation of the camera.
Thanks. What a helpful bunch, you all are.

I bought my first Pentax - incidentally my first DSLR - at the weekend.
It's a K-x and I love it.
One problem. The CD that came with the camera, doesn't work on my Mac.
I think it may be because Pentax haven't updated compatibility with the latest OS.
Is there a way I can download this software?
I've heard it includes updates to firmware which will fix issues with battery life.
Sorry to jump right in with a question, but I'm itching to get started, and I want to make sure everything's up to date etc.
Regards and thanks in advance.
