K5 II affect on prices

I recently sold one of my used K5s for £420 and these new K5II & K5IIs are around £850+ so that is nearly double
For any new K5 stock around then I'd expect them to get to the USA prices, currently just under $800 (ca. £550), or even lower, pretty sharpish.

IMHO they have dropped a clanger calling the new model K-5 II.
It won't help the dealers to profitably sell remaining stocks
of the K-5.... People will want the newer model and walk out
if the shop haven't got it. Had they called it the K-4 or K-3
the buyer would have made a choice.
Older models often hang around for month's.... K-R's are
still available..... Now the old K-5's are going to have
to be dumped, which isn't in either the dealers or Pentax's
interest. It will also hit K-30 sales.

New k-5s are very very thin on the ground.
Currys and Jessops have no stock, which leaves independent dealers, who I guess may if you're lucky have a body each. But even this is unlikely...
Calling it the mkii is inspired, the k-5 is a very well reviewed camera both in the press and by users. Calling it the mkii builds on the brand trust built by the k-5.
Any manufacture will not be bothered about stocks of older models being held by dealers, these have already been paid for and as the newer model is around £150 more than the old the old model will still sell...

My K5 is stll very new and I love it.
The Mk II looks identical, nothing wrong with that. It's priced a lot more competitively to start too than its forbear. I was expecting £1200 for a body again.
The importance is the make thrives so we aren't left with a legacy system. I should know, I own a Palm Lifedrive PDA. Not a lot of support for that today!

I suppose the bottom line is that if the K5 II holds its price then the K30 will but if the former starts being cut the K30 will have to drop to maintain the differential. Nothing new about that though really.
