Thats an over-reaction Marat... bringing learning difficulties into it misses the point. If there are learning difficulties involved, then its for the person themselves to reveal if thats important for them, and if not then getting peoples feedback and reaction to how you come across can only be positive and helpful.

Looking at the almost total fluency in the OPs comments it is clear that he would be able to understand the points made and apply them.
Sorry I didn't know you knew the OP, but if you don't then you would like him to reveal any learning problems he has to the forum?

Your education level is a very personal thing, with or without learning difficulties, people I work with at Daybreak find forums like these a great way of educating themselves without mixing with others who may have preconceptions of their mental abilities just because their reading or writing skills are not on par with others.

So forum members feedback and reaction as you call it, can be upsetting and offensive, if you don't know the OP.

Nobody and I mean nobody has the right to criticize, lambaste or besmirch somebody for missing out a coma or full stop in a post, is this the sought of behaviour that is excepted on here, because in the modern world that has long disappeared.

So what we are trying to say is that we have to be well educated to enjoy the art of photography, that one post is not only truly offensive, but totally blinkered to the world around you.

I have family members who enjoy photography but also have learning difficulties, they can read, they can write but not to the expected standards of some members on this site, So what should they do, hang up the cameras, not join in forums, not reach out and ask for help....
Thats all a completely fanciful leap you've made there ... apprently springing from your imagination ... no one has said anything remotely like that here.

The only thing that has been pointed out here is that appreciation and a little thanks is nice and polite, and that presentation in writing can add to its impact and how the writer is percieved. That is good advice for anyone, with learning difficulties or not.

I don't know him, but let me remind you that you were the one who brought 'learning difficulties' into this ... it was not mentioned or even considered before you did so.

Yep your right, I don't know the OP either, so I didn't question his education or learning abilities, and I guess the members didn't consider this either before the criticism began.

So please tell, how do you perceive the OP on the basis of their grammar,

We do run courses for people with these perceived views if you are interested.

It doesn't matter really ... if there's an issue for anyone then probably best on a forum to let people know how it actually affects the individual, then people will understand. But the advice given is good, solid stuff, for people with learning difficultes also, helpful for the world in general actually ... even this modern world.

I still have no reason at all to think that learning difficulties are involved here ... as I said, you mentioned it first...

Look, its unfortunate that this has headed this way .. I didn't want the OP to go away. I hope he has got his k5 manual and it is useful. I for one would be most happy to try and help with any other questions, with or without capital letters. But I would remind him that its nice to acknowledge the help, and people appreciate that.

Lets not turn this into another 'Nigel & Marat' thing Because its not! I'm still not a staff member

Yes, like many things in life it can be those presentational details that make the difference to how well you are perceived, and how seriously you are taken.

stub62, I know you may well have 'sodded off' (I do hope not) .. but you could have made less of a hash of all this ... a simple thanks for the various pieces of advice that were given would have gone a long way, as would showing that you had actually made use of the advice.
Quite.

That's odd, I didn't read Algernon's comment as rude, but simply him pointing out a truth: punctuation, grammar and spelling do matter.

It's actually quite disrespectful, as well as unhelpful, when photographers offer posts to which little thought has been given to literary conventions. One of the pleasures of this forum is the generally erudite nature of the comments.

I've been in Whitby all day, so now I'm back I'll just remind everyone that courtesy is a given here on PU. Please don't criticise the person, but you can of course criticise the argument.

Complaints should be addressed by sending me a PM or making a report, not by arguing in the forums.

The quote from Andrew makes no mention of learning difficulties. As I said above, lets not make this an argument ... it may be based on misunderstandings. But the introduction of learning difficulties into the argument I maintain is fanciful. As I've also said, that matter is entirely for an individual to raise if they want to.

Another post ignored (except by Nigel).

All this stuff seems pretty irrelevant to my post about writing "Thanks MrB" for a suggestion offered. Incidentally that suggestion was the result of my web search for the K-5 manual, checking that the download link worked, and downloading the file to check that it was the correct document.

I would think that most people capable of using a computer, all over the world, whatever their grasp of the English language, would probably know how to express their thanks in English, assuming that they had the good manners, and the desire, to do so.

Cheers.

It's nothing to do with a Nigel & Marat thing, whatever that is, it's about the disgusting and offensive comments made without any thought by members who are still stuck in the 19th century.
