NR algorithms don't just affect noise, they also affect wanted parts of the signal so you can't automatically makr that deduction. The smearing ( reduction in detail ) that NR puts into the images is highly likely to reduce moire too. Especially as the method to reduce moire is also a reduction in detail ( either by shaking the sensor, adding an AA filter, or doing it in software.

Thats right - just because the noise reduction had some effect on our Penguin head here doesn't automatically mean that it is only noise.
I'm not sure really why people refuse to see these particular artifacts as moire. Its not unexpected, given the nature of the surface texture here, and the fact there is no aa filter or simulator active.
Colour noise is related to larger spans of single tonal areas (like the 'blacks'), and doesn't stop just because the surface texture changes - it only changes when the tonal range does. If its colour noise, then why is it not present on the even deeper blacks near the birds beak where the feathers are pressed together or damp?

Because they're not; there would be no difference in that colouring if the image had been taken on a K-5. A K-5 can photograph a rainbow just as well as a K-3 despite it having an AA filter!I'm not sure really why people refuse to see these particular artifacts as moire.

This was taken with a K-01 and is not moire but refraction, same as on the feather!
