K3 SR Exifdata

Whilst looking for something else in the Exifdata (Iknow, I must get a life, and get out more :roll, I noticed that none of my images had recorded 'stabilized' as the SR Result in the Exif Makernotes. All 200+ images where SR was on, had recorded 'not ready' or 'not stabilized' as the result.

I did a few tests with different lenses, making sure that the green hand symbol in the viewfinder was on, but cannot achieve 'stabilized' as a result. I looked at some web images that had full Exif info, and the only images that I found that had SR=On and SR Result=stabilized were the original samples posted by Ricoh after the Launch.

Looking at my images, the effect of SR is plain to see, so SR is definitely active.

I would appreciate it, if someone else could check their Exifinfo to see if this is specific to my camera, or a quirk of the K3.

BTW. I used Exiftool 9.40 to examine the Exifinfo.

Looking in Photome at a K5 image, the stabilization field shows up in the manufacturers notes section of the data. On the K3, that section doesn't seem to appear at all! Something for Ricoh to sort out.

That lost me a bit!

I've opened up an image in the new Digital Camera Utility 5 that came on the CD with the K3 and that does have a 'shake reduction' field showing either on of off.

I believe that that just shows whether or not SR was switched on, not what the result was.

It just means that some programs may have to be updated to show K3 Makernotes. It's a pity, but Photome seems to be no longer maintained.

If you want to see the K3 Makernotes (there is a lot of it), exiftool has already been updated. Exiftool and a Graphical User Interface are available here. It's all freeware.

Right. Have installed ExifTool and taken a fresh image making sure it has stabilized and can confirm that Exiftook confirms that while shake reduction is active it indicates it isn't stabilized even though it was.

I think that exiftool is OK, it shows the expected results on K5 images.

Ah, so its a firmware issue then. I've suspected that the firmware wasn't fully finalised ever since Ricoh wouldn't let journalists take test images with the display cameras.
