Happless sap eh? Well in the time ive had ny mkii ive had my best ever year photography sales wise and uve got a nightly job in a nightclub and the mkii has made that job relatively easier than the old mki i used with its very poor af in low light.
my mkii has paid for itself many times over in the last nine months so yes i guess it was a very poor purchasing decision and makes me a helpless sap.
i think in the last two years there has been a new body every year, you can either see commercial advantages in technological advancement or you can stay fixed in the past.
In relation to your reply dude, I respect the fact that you're now carving a decent photographic path with your K2 in a nightclub, but what exactly has that to do with my suggestion that Pentax/Ricoh might be taking the p*ss out of the consumer market?

Yes its a newly designed sensor and the k-3 is the first to feature it.
Let's put this into perspective. It was on the drawing board long ago and subsequently waiting in the wings whilst they introduced the K30, marginally revamped the K5 and then threw the K50's into the ring for good measure. Now, having introduced these apparent 'stopgap' cash building models Rioch are suddenly setting the pace with a technological 'first' that instantly demotes all previous models in the 'must have' stakes?

Without these so called stop gap models these company's would not have the cash flow or advertising to bring out these new and improved models and we would all still be driving Model T's still.
But on a plus note you have now answered your own argument

The must have stakes?
Well im not pining for a k-30 had one didntt meet my needs neither did a mkiis. Do manufacturers make bodies to lose money if they do that must be a new business model I missed somewhere wuthin the camera world.

I thought you were very positive about the mkII - I recall the nightclub shots. What was lacking?

I think Gary's referring to the K-5iis, not the standard K-5ii Adrian.I thought you were very positive about the mkII - I recall the nightclub shots. What was lacking?

Yes I realise that. But I thought the high ISO nightclub shots were very good and there was particular praise for the AF (same on both) so I am interested in why it fell short of expectations.

This can only be done by innovation and upgrading.
However, You don't need to buy every new model. Do you buy every year the latest model car?
If you do, then there is of course no need to worry about the new camera models every year. If you have the spare cash, stop whinging and buy it.
But if you haven't, why not be happy with what you have at the moment and wait a few years before investing in anew model. At least you know the pros and cons of your existing model and you can concentrate on improving your pictures if need be.

The mkiis didn't fit within my business plans, to little difference in image quality for too much money.

Thanks, Adam on the other forum wrote an informative article on high iso performance across sensor sizes, which I presume is the image quality ceiling the K5 has hit.

Pentax/Ricoh have just announced how much they regret the previous poor rate of DSLR's Pentax previously produced...and suddenly they're flooding the market with a plethora of models all curiously within your 'twelve month' yard stick? The_archaeologist wrote:

On such a basis, Ricoh must have experienced the kind of sales boom to make Nikon and Canon go positively green with envy!

Please folks, don't feed the troll.
It's been quite a while since I've seen anyone manage to have such a comprehensive moan about something that's actually good, namely a decent range of new products.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be in the vanguard of those whining about disappointing AF, if such it turns out to be.
But in the meantime, what's not to like about the growing Pentax range?

Nothing. It's an excellent lineup. APSC choice is excellent, GR is a cracker, Q7 is excellent. Time to push on and build from a position of strength.

Has anybody tried to buy toiletries or even Heinz Baked Beans in Oz or New Zealand.
And Heinz Baked Beans too, though it costs more in NZ than AU.
Pentax is essentially non existent in NZ. There are basically no shops listing the K-3 yet. The likes of the 50mm f1.8 lens special at £119 is not really available here, except for a parallel importing store which can get it at £222. Much thanks for family travelling and internet shopping really!
