K20D purchase

The only advantage to the strong Euro is that the dollar is low - which makes petrol a bit cheaper for us - if the dollar was strong petrol would be a completely ridiculous price for us as opposed to merely a ridiculous price.
I believe that the fact there are still so many K10Ds available here has done little to reduce the price of the K20D, the absence of the Samsung from the Dutch market hasn't helped either.
It was a real shame I couldn't get anything in the US lens wise. I hope the lack of Pentax lenses was due to popularity there - certainly in a couple of shops they had sold out in the last day or two before I got there and were waiting on a new order, which would imply popularity. Sadly I was never in one place long enough to wait for their new stock.
Since I didn't get the K20D for my trip I think I will sit back and wait a while. The Ds is doing fine so I am not in any great panic to fork out a fortune on the K20D now. I'd love a new toy, but not at any price.

hmmm the temptation is getting bigger by the day...
The price for a K20D body was Euro 879,00
Today it is Euro. 799,00
Earlier this week I was at a big electronics chain (the one which claims that they are nr. 1 in camera's and don't even have a single K20D on display...) and they could order a K20D for me but the price would be Euro 1200,00 for the body...

I got back from my trip to Phoenix last weekend, very little Pentax kit to be found when I was there. It has been a similar story on all of my visits to the US this year. It was a real shame I couldn't get anything in the US lens wise. When they do have kit, the prices in the normal photog shops tend to be little better than the UK. The best deals are if you can arrange for someone like BHPhoto or Adorama to post to where you are staying. They have a general rule about not sending to resorts/hotels, but are OK with registered workplaces. I picked up a FA50 for around £95 and a FA35 for around £140 towards on separate visits around the turn of the year when the £ was stronger. I was hoping that the DA 17-70 might become available during my last trip, but I guess I will have to wait now until the Autumn.

How weird - when I looked earlier it was the price I said. Obviously that was still in my cache so came up with the same price when I checked it again.
Hmmm Urk isn't soo far away now is it. It is definitely getting tempting now.

Same here... I would really like to have one when my brother get's married in september. The thing is that I don't want to buy it 3 weeks before that, the K20D is much more complex then my DS that I really need some extra time to play with it. If the dog hadn't been sick this weekend I'd have one by now. I was all set to go for a trip out to Urk Saturday when the dog starting puking all over the place . Couldn't leave him on his own in that state.

well after a nice conversation with the people from the store they were willing to sell me a k20d for 799... So it is ordered, I am going to join the K20D crowd (easier to pronounce than *ist-DS... )
I will keep my DS around as a backup body, I think that selling it on evilbay won't yield a lot of money and to be honest I became quite attached to this camera, more then with any other camera I owned...
So I can play with the k20d during the summer holiday to get to know it better

Congratulations Golf! I'll be interested to hear how you get on with it after the Ds.
I still love my Ds and am really not in any great hurry to replace it, so I'll probably wait a little bit longer. When I do upgrade the Ds will go the billpayer as a glorified P&S I expect.

Try the prices in Switzerland... www.toppreise.ch. Electronics is rather cheap here. Not as much as in the US though.

Also there's still the problem of what if something goes wrong.
The price difference is very high. Are we a victim of a Euro which is to strong?
I think the Euro is very strong against other currencies, which might explain why the FA 50 mm in HAFO is EUR 300 (240 GBP ), I paid 199 for the FA 35 f2
