Sounds like an insurance claim would be worth a try.
My Ist Ds did the same thing after it's fall. It wasn't worth repairing though . I had only shortly before taken it off my insurance too .

Or if you're really patient wait another few weeks for the big announcement.

Am thinking insurance claim !!
You need a nice letter from SRS stating that the camera is beyond economic repair and that the current equivalent is the K7.Am thinking insurance claim !!
Then when the insurance company offer to provide direct, say no. You need one with a full 2 year warranty. By the time that is discussed/agreed there may be a new body available.

I had something similar reset tried everything and found the memory card had unseated. I'm guessing you've done the obvious.
Insurance. Bad luck.
While a K-7 is good, you might feel less likely to upgrade to whatever might be round the corner (jam tomorrow).

Have you tried another lens on it? Sounds like it's not recognising the aperture, and you may not have the custom function set to allow it to fire without an 'A' lens mounted.

Silly suggestion - but you never know it might work.
I was away and had swapped lenses from the Tammy to the 40mmLtd since I wanted to play with it between the showers.
Switched it on and also found the flashing F , and wouldn't take any shots - had a real panic attack I can tell you and then decided to check that I had actually managed to get the lens tightly on - no it wasn't Re-seated lens and all was well.
It's worth a try - but I expect you have already thought of that one
