It apparently adds remote shooting from your PC/Mac...

I've never used that, but here you go anyway.

It's worth installing even if you don't use Remote Assistant. It's not unheard of for Pentax to slip in the odd bug fix without telling us.

Too right Peter!

Have been told that this firmware also gives full SDM support...

How can you do this to me?????

Telling me this when it's more than 8 hours before I can try it....

I'll be fidgeting about all day with anticipation now...

Hurray!! Well, my plans for tonight have changed. I will have to have a go at this! Along with the wire-less flash, the loss of this feature was a bit of a disappointment. Having them both now really brightens my day.
I don't use tethered shooting much but when I want it, man I miss it.

It took a little hunting, so to save some you the trouble you may find the remote Assistant software here. (Or it could just be me, either way, hope this helps someone):

By the way, if anyone gets to actually try this before I can get home from work... does it download JPEG only? Or will it work on RAW? For istD it made sense to download JPEG only, as the USB1 was horribly slow. Hopefully this will support RAW, but the docs don't seem to indicate that at all.

Hoping it will work with istD as well. Can see some potential uses for multi-camera automatically timed shooting.

Works in RAW!

Unfortunately RemoteAssist3 won't work with my istD. Was hoping to make some nifty 3D images. Guess I'll have to trade it up for another K10D.

Anyway, works great with the K10D!!
Gotta love it! Well, at least the next time we have a thunderstorm, perhaps I can go to sleep and let the software sit for four hours until it gets a decent lighting strike!

There is (and always has been) a Remote Assistant software for the *istD.

Yes, but Remote Assistant v1 doesn't handle multiple cameras and enable you to synch taking of photos with them. Version 3 handles up to four cameras. Unfortunately, at least for now, they all have to be K10Ds.

Well. If SDM stands for Stop Down Metering, then regrettably, after a couple of admittedly very crude tests, this is a definition of "full support" that I've not come across before.

But I haven't done a proper test - I'll have a better look tomorrow night.

I may be wrong bu I took it to mean "Sonic Drive Motor" i.e. support for the new DA* lenses.
Cheers
Brian.
LBA is good for you, a Lens a day helps you work, rest and play.

Brian is right
SDM = Super Direct-drive Motor (apparently)

(comparable to the offerings from C&N)

On the subject of Stop Down Metering, I've run some more tests, much like the last lot, and come to the conclusion there's no significant change with firmware 1.2.

I've put some exposures at http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/52128-post9.html if anyone's interested, but it's the same old story.
