The real answer seems to be use A lenses or later, let the camera body select the aperture rather than the aperture ring and all will be well.

The alternative for real purists would be a hand held meter. A Pentax Spotmeter would be rather nice.

I don't know about 'real' answer. It's certainly the only answer that doesn't involve a lot of messing about.

I've only got two pre-A lenses, SMC primes 135 F3.5 and 200mm F4. I guess I ought to think about selling them and putting the proceeds towards something newer. Shame though.
