would I be right in thinking that the flash on a K100D fires at the start of the exposure period and can't be set to fire at the end (with the trailing shutter/curtain) ??

can't find any custom option to let me change this !?
(need to buy that K10 perhaps ??)

All Pentax dSLR pop-up flashes fire a pre-flash as part of the P-TTL exposure. Then there's the main flash.

Not sure if all bodies can do trailing sync on the main flash. Pretty sure you only get that in M, Av, Tv modes (not in Green mode IIRC). It's not a custom option - you'll find it in the main flash pop-up menu (Fn etc) when you're in the right mode.

And, of course, trailing curtain flash sync is only any good if you're using a slower shutter speed.

Sorry to be so vague... having to run at the mo'

The K7 can be set to trigger a slave flash, whether with or without the camera flash contributing to the exposure.

Only 4 flash choices that I see using the Fn button ; Auto or Manual, with or without 'Red eye' !!

Saw a post that said K10 could do it, just wondered about K100 !?

The K10D certainly does, I'm pretty sure the K100D doesn't - not from the pop-up flash anyway.

If you get an external P-TTL gun (like the AF360 or 540) then that can do second curtain flash. The only problem is that after the recent price rises an AF360 costs more than the average second hand K10D...

A K10D is what I'm after (if and when I can afford it) as it has some of the better features found on my old *ist D, namely 'Exposure' selection from dial (not menu) and 'Hyper' mode, which I quite liked. It also had coninuous focus by switch, another nice touch.

In the mean time I'm trying to get the best/most out of my K100D

The K10D really is a very nice camera, I think you'd be pleased with it.
