k10 owner just joined

30 years ago I was really into photography with my ME Super, a standard 5o mm lens, a 24-35 mm pentax and a tokina 70-210 zoom.

University etc stopped al this.

2 years ago I bought a k10 and sigma 17-70mm from srs.

But 3 kids and a job stopped any usage until the last 6 weeks.


I have now added, a pentax 70 -200 mm zoom,a macro lens attachment thingy and an old 135 mm and 55 takumur lenses. Though still trying to get comfortable with setting the k10 for these

I need to get a m42 adaptor for the 55mm lens and looking at a monopod.

I also have a K10D, just upgraded to a K5, but still using the K10, as it’s a very good camera.

Try SRS for your K to 42mm adaptor.

It served me well for four and a half years - last week I acquired a K-5.

My ME Super served me well from about 1990 to 2007, so I've made much the same journey as you - not an unusual one, I suspect.

Less exposure than with film, so you don't burn the skies out, would be my tip. Then pull the shadows up - there's often a surprising amount there.

ALSO have an eye out for the classic 28mm 3.5!

I have 3 kids, no car, so travel light.

Is a monopod a good investment>

A monopod provides stability in one direction only, so it's not a complete cure for camera shake, unless you use it to provide additional stability when holding the camera against a wall, say.

Although I have one, I have only ever used it as a walking stick. The in-camera shake-reduction (together with decent high ISO on recent cameras) reduces the need for a monpod.

Pentax did a poor job with the metering using pre-A series lenses. Basically, it doesn't work unless the lens is wide-open, in which case you can use Av.

So, with K and M lenses you are stuck with manual metering, AKA suck it and see. The beauty of digital is instant feedback.

I have two monopods, and Do use them

Great if you want to travel light, but not as good as a tripod for stability.

Excellent in crowds to get extra height (holding the camera over your head using a wide lens, remote release and luck) or combined with a butt holder (fishing accessory tip from member K10D) very useful in providing support for longer lenses.

Welcome to the forums! I have the GX-10 which is the Samsung rebadge of the K10D. Still happy with it, although am currently selling it due to need of funds (but no one's buying, is that a hint?).
