K1 stiff top dial

I sent my K1, which i assumed to be in excellent conditon, to Wex for a part exchange and they have come back to me saying to top dial to the right of the LCD screen is stiff, and that it needs a repair for which they will get a quote. I asked if they had compared it to other K1's but apparently not so I have asked them to return it. My question is, what is the consensus here? Are there any members with a K1 near to Wellesbourne in Warwickshire I could compare with?

Hi Rob, can't help with a comparison but I've just checked mine and I would say that particular dial is very similar to the other dial to the right of the prism - possibly a slight touch stiffer but not much different! Is that your experience?

On my K1 I operate the 'Setting Dial' using just my thumb and it does feel quite stiff compared to the other two dials. But I think that's because I operate the other 2 dials using a thumb plus first finger. So I've just tried operating the Setting Dial using a thumb and first finger and I'd say the 'click' resistance is very similar to the other dials when operated in this manner.

I can't check mine as I sold it on Ebay last week but I always thought the dial was a little harder to turn than previous Pentax cameras. No help really though, just thinking aloud.

Just checked my K1 and found no discernible difference with any of the dials.

Thanks all, my K1 has just been returned and I found the function dial had the lock applied. It wasn't like that when I sent it off so I guess the assessor at Wex must have done it and then tried to force the knob round; it will turn if forced but obviously not a wise thing to do. With the lock off everything worked fine. They also said the aperture blades were sticking on my 100mm macro lens so therefore beyond economic repair. They do seem a bit slow after clicking the aperture lever but I tested it at f16 and f32 at 1/8000 sec and the results were correctly exposed.

Not only WEX.

Skill set and competence are becoming a rare thing these days.

Update: Park Cameras came good by being very close to their original figure after examining my kit; the issues Wex had downgraded my kit for were non-existent and I think what they offered was very fair.
