HI ,

I have read tha pentax states the following: K-mount lenses usable with restrictions.
All i want to know is what the restrictions are?
Also how to set the apperture of the lense in the camera to get the right exposure

I hope some one can help
Cheers

Basically, the camera will determine the 'correct' exposure and you simply turn the aperture ring until that correct exposure is displayed in the viewfinder. Depending on the camera model, the display will light up green or the over/under exposure warnings will go out or the needle will be centered.
The correct exposure is the combination of shutter speed and aperture as determined by the camera's light meter and there will be many possible combinations. As you increase one, you can decrease the other to maintain the same exposure but you'll be altering the camera's ability to freeze the action and the len's depth of field characteristics.
K mount lenses do not have the electronic contacts that allow some cameras to automatically adjust the aperture.

I hope that helps and that someone can offer more specific advice for your camera and lens as I've not as yet used either.
Die my dear doctor, that's the last thing I shall do!

The *ist D uses the following lenses with all the functionality of which the lens is capable:

A, F, FA, FAJ, DA.

It can also use earlier K mount lenses (M and the first K lenses which have no suffix after the word "Pentax"). The camera must be using the latest firmware and be set to Manual. To set the correct shutter speed for the pre-selected aperture, press the green button.

In practice it's pretty straightforward and quick.

Thank You Kimbo and thank you George for your replies

The lense I am using is the Peleng with and old m42 screw mount with a Pentax K adapter + Camera *ist D
I will try this green button as i already have the latest firm ware 1.11
it is just that up to now i can set the aperture on the lenses (lets sat to 3.5) but i am not able to set it on the camera which leaves me having to take 3 pictures to come to the right combination of shutter speed and aperture.. if there was a way to set the aperture in the camera so it knew which aperture the lense had it would be much easier

Once again thanks

With screw lenses you have to stop down to the shooting aperture when using the green button. This isn't always very easy because the auto-manual switch on the lens can be obscured by the overhang of the pop-up flash.

I find I lose shots when using M42 lenses, unless the subject is static and easy to see.
