zoom lens query

Hi.I've been offered a pentax 28-80mm,3.5-4.5 zoom lems,it is of the two touch variety,it's cosmetically clean although a little loose in construction.My chief concern is unlike my other pentax lenses it does not indicate that it is a s.m.c lens.Is the lens of inferior quality,or just manufactured before my other lenses.Thanks for any help offered.

There are some lower cost lenses in the Pentax range, and I would assume that if it does not say SMC then it has single coating. It depends what sort of picture size you are printing to whether or not a lens is satisfactory. I am convinced that soem low cost zooms are only designed to make 13 x 18 cm prints, so if you want 16 x 12 inch prints then you need to be a bit more careful in choice.

I would avoid any lens that is loose in construction.
